Hidden Gems: Meet Manreet Sangha of Verro Training and Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manreet Sangha

Hi Manreet, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m from Portland, Oregon and moved to LA in 2013 to receive my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. My parents immigrated here from India in the late 80’s and worked hard to give my siblings and I the best life. I am forever grateful for all the sacrifices that they made. And have used their worth ethic and perseverance to help motivate myself in my career.

I always knew I wanted to be in healthcare and have an altruistic career. Exercise and physical activity is not something that is always prioritized in the Indian community and I wanted to change that. I wanted to use movement as a way to help individuals not only get out of pain but prevent injuries and stay healthy. Physical therapy is more than low level exercises or passive manual treatment. It can be used to help optimize your training, improve your skills in a certain sport or activity, prevent injury, and improve longevity. I love what I do and I am very passionate about it. I can truthfully say that if I am having a bad day, nothing will improve my mood more than working with my patients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own practice has been challenging but thankfully I have a great support system around. Not a lot of people could run a business with their significant other, but Frank and I work the best together. We have had to figure things out on our own. From how to incorporate a business, renting out a commercial space, marketing, and everything else. There were small mistakes made along the way but we’ve learned from them and with being a small business owner there will always be challenges, you just learn to keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My partner, Frank and I started Verro in Venice, CA earlier this year. Verro is a semi-private gym and physical therapy practice. We wanted to combine both our skills and create a boutique gym where individuals could come into a high level professional training space without distractions normally found in a big box fitness center.

Frank provides personal training services along with creating custom 6 week programs for individuals who need guidance on where to start on their strength training journey. He also helps with the Venice Lift Club (created by Kristina and Andrew Fair) which is for young adolescents (>15 years) who are interested in strength training and want to learn about proper lifting form, nutrition, recovery, how to build muscle, and prevent injuries.

I specialize in orthopedics and in pelvic floor physical therapy. My practice provides private one on one physical therapy care to patients. I want patients to feel heard and be able to provide high quality care. I take a holistic approach when trying to figure out why an individual has pain and what I can do to help them become pain-free and more active. It may be poor movement patterns, decreased muscle activation, compensatory patterns that have been created over the years, and I do my best to educate the patient and give them autonomy in their rehab.

Most people don’t know that physical therapists can have a pelvic floor specialty. I help educate pregnant women on how to safely exercise, prepare for birth, how to perform a perineal massage, and prevent pain. For postpartum women, I help with how to safely exercise after delivery, work on any impairments such as urine incontinence, uterine prolapse, diastasis recti abdominis, pelvic pain, and pain after intercourse.

What truly sets Verro apart is our seamless transition from recovery to long-term well-being. At Verro, a session is not just an appointment, it’s a comprehensive experience. Clients have a physical therapist and/or personal trainer by their side throughout the entire duration, ensuring they receive the best care possible. Once a client has reached their recovery goals, we seamlessly integrate them into our personal training programs. Our personal trainers and therapists collaborate as a cohesive team, ensuring a holistic approach to the client’s ongoing fitness journey.

Our 6-week training programs are created by collecting and analyzing data to identify the most effective stimuli for achieving desired adaptations. For physical therapy, we curate each session based on a client’s specific requirements. This personalized attention sets us apart from the one-size-fits-all model prevalent in traditional clinics. Our goal is to provide maximum value, and we achieve this by spending quality time with our clients to address the root cause of their concerns.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is don’t go at it alone. Lean on your support system. They are there for a reason and you will be surprised by how many people are willing to help you and how much they want you to succeed. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family, friends, and my partner, Frank.
