Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ly.
Hi Lisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to where I am today started with a simple mission: to make my mother proud. This was particularly important to me as a second-generation immigrant from Cambodia – I wanted to break the mold since most women in my culture are expected to be wives or caretakers. As a result, I wanted to show my mother that she had raised a strong, independent and ambitious daughter, and someone who could achieve anything she set her mind to. We didn’t always get on when I was younger due to my carefree approach to life, something that didn’t really fit with the norms for Cambodian women. I sometimes wish I’d been more obedient, but my free-spirited nature brought me to where I am today.
As I began to navigate my way through adulthood, I developed a fierce passion for travel and I’m constantly on the hunt for the next beautiful tropical destination to visit. I’ve done a lot of traveling alone too, and I think these solo trips shaped me more than I can ever quantify. Viewing life through a different lens and immersing myself in different cultures is so inspiring to me, and it’s definitely a key driver for my business.
I visited Belize last year with a girlfriend. We sat at Secret Beach in San Pedro, indulging in the cuisine, basking in the sun and taking in the world around us. That’s when it hit me. I needed to pursue my own swimsuit line – a brand that represents my playful nature and leaves women feeling unapologetically confident. This was the moment Bronzed Babe Swim was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anyone who has tried and succeeded to launch a fashion brand will tell you the same thing – it’s never a smooth road. Swimwear especially is an incredibly difficult art to master, particularly when you’ve got as many goals for the line as I have! We hit several logistical speed bumps along the way, including finding the right manufacturers, choosing the perfect fabric and sourcing everything we needed to bring the brand to life.
One of the key challenges that few people talk about though is the sheer amount of motivation, discipline and effort required to create your own brand. Before the business even takes off, it’s easy to worry about whether things will succeed or how you’re going to make it all happen. Luckily for me, it did, and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come on my entrepreneurial journey.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m determined to succeed no matter what it takes. As well as expanding my brand across the globe to help women look and feel good in their second skin, I’d love to extend into children’s swimwear too. As well as being an entrepreneur, being a mother myself is one of my biggest achievements. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find high-quality swimwear that meets the needs of our little ones, so that’s an adventure I’m really excited to embark on.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to develop more conversation-worthy bikinis that shine a spotlight on whoever decides to wear them. I live and breathe this brand and can’t wait to see people wearing our pieces in incredible destinations across the world.
