Hidden Gems: Meet Kim Marchbank of Modern Day Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Marchbank.

Kim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From Corporate Marketer to Fractional CMO & Agency Founder

I’ve spent more than 20 years in marketing, but my career hasn’t been a straight line. It has been a journey of evolution, reinvention, and recognizing new innovative opportunities.

I started my career in traditional marketing, learning the fundamentals: how to position products, how to understand customer motivations, how to build campaigns that actually deliver revenue and not just vanity metrics. Over time, I worked across nearly every major function of marketing: brand, demand generation, sales enablement, product marketing, and account-based strategy. Those years gave me a deep understanding of how marketing truly works as a business engine, not just a creative department.

After working with partners and other organizations throughout the years, I realized a lot of companies were struggling with their marketing and growth efforts and I knew I could help solve real growth problems.

That’s when I transitioned into Fractional CMO work, partnering with founders and leadership teams who needed senior-level marketing expertise without the overhead of a full-time executive. I found fulfillment in being the person who could bring clarity, focus, and strategy to businesses that were ready for their next stage of growth.

The industries I focus on are: physical security, PropTech, real estate and service-based businesses. These industries are evolving but their marketing strategy is either non-existent or has lagged behind. I saw a gap, and I stepped into it.

Very quickly, I realized many of these companies didn’t just need leadership, they needed a marketing partner who could execute. That’s when I founded my own full-service digital marketing agency (moderndaymarketinggroup.com), combining strategic fractional CMO leadership with marketing execution.

My approach is simple:

– Lead with strategy

– Execute with precision

– Build scaleable marketing systems

– Measure everything

I’ve had the privilege of helping startups gain brand traction, mid-sized companies break through revenue plateaus, and established brands reposition themselves for future growth.

I’m still what I’ve always been – a marketer who loves helping businesses grow. But now, I get to do it on my terms working with clients I believe in that want real results.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, my biggest challenge was learning how to be a sales person. I have been a marketer for a long time, but sales was new for me. I like a good challenge, so I pushed myself to do a lot of sales calls so I could build confidence and learn from my mistakes and I has paid off.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Modern Day Marketing?
My business is a Fractional CMO consultancy and full service marketing agency built specifically for the physical security, proptech, home and business services, and real estate industries. After more than 20 years in B2B and B2C high-growth marketing roles, I saw a huge leadership gap in these sectors. Companies were innovating in their products and/or services, but their marketing wasn’t evolving with them. So I created a company that brings modern, revenue-driven marketing strategies to industries that historically relied on referrals, relationships, and word-of-mouth.

We specialize in building full go-to-market strategies and systems — everything from brand positioning and messaging, to SEO and paid media, to sales enablement and ongoing demand generation. What we’re really known for is messaging and positioning: helping companies articulate what they do, who they serve, and why they’re different in a way that resonates with buyers.

What sets us apart is the combination of deep industry expertise and executive-level leadership. I’m not an agency that drops off deliverables and disappears. I embed with teams like a true CMO, aligning sales and marketing, building the infrastructure they’ve been missing, and ensuring that every marketing tactic ties back to revenue. My clients feel like they’ve gained a senior leader, not just a vendor.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built for being practical, honest, and results-driven. In a space where a lot of companies have been burned by generic marketing agencies, we bring a refreshing level of transparency, accountability, and strategy. Our work has helped clients improve pipeline quality, shorten sales cycles, elevate their brand presence, and create scalable marketing engines instead of one-off campaigns that don’t work.

What I want readers to know is this: if you’re ready for marketing that’s not fluff, not guesswork, and not just ‘checking a box,’ we’re the partner that will help you scale with intention. Whether you need a Fractional CMO or a specialized marketing service, everything we offer is built to drive real growth and not vanity metrics.

At the end of the day, my mission is simple: To help companies accelerate predictable growth through strategic marketing, smarter positioning, and full-funnel execution that turns brands into revenue engines.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I joined a group of other fractionals and agency owners to bounce ideas off of and network with.
