Today we’d like to introduce you to Khalid Musharbash.
Hi Khalid, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the world of taxes and accounting began in one of the most unexpected ways. I was fresh into college and suddenly suffered a severe leg injury. My inability to walk forced me to take an entire year off to recover. I never would have thought that this injury would later guide me toward some of my greatest accomplishments.
During recovery, my uncle who owned his own tax firm, asked if I’d be interested in learning about taxes and working with him. At the time, I knew absolutely nothing about the field, but I needed a sense of purpose to distract myself as I felt the entire world was moving forward without me. He gave me an opportunity, so I enrolled in courses online and quickly found myself enjoying what I was learning. I passed all the exams, practiced through many real-life scenarios, and eventually became licensed with the state.
Once my leg was fully healed, I reenrolled into my university with a completely new major and graduated in professional accountancy. Throughout my entire twenties, I was working while attending university full time and became a certified public accountant (CPA). After spending a decade in the field, I took the leap and started my own accounting firm and here we are today. Looking back, what started as a setback turned into the foundation of my career.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! As cliché as it sounds, starting a business is far from easy. It is very risky, unpredictable, and at times lonely. Every business has their struggles, and an accounting firm is no different with its own hurdles.
One of the biggest challenges has been wearing every hat at once. From building relationships with clients, navigating regulations and compliance, earning the proper credentials, marketing strategies, implementing technology, and still making sure the actual work itself gets done. On top of that, tax laws are constantly changing, so staying current is non-negotiable. As if balancing that wasn’t enough, there are brutal deadlines to meet, forcing you to adapt and perform under pressure. Every challenge forced me to grow and taught me something new. It definitely has not been the smoothest path, but it is the right one for me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about KM & CO TAX SERVICES?
I am a CPA and licensed tax professional with over a decade of experience, specializing in tax and consulting services to individuals and businesses across a wide range of industries. In this field, experience and adaptability is everything. I’ve learned that those who don’t evolve limit their capabilities. I believe what sets me apart is I am proud of the relationship-focused approach I bring to the table. For me, it all starts with the people and how I can prioritize them. Each client is unique with their own story. We all know taxation can be overwhelming and is not a fun subject for most. However, providing tax solutions and guidance excites me.
I take the time to understand my clients’ financial goals and craft proactive strategies to help reach them. That personalized approach creates lasting partnerships built on trust and value. At the end of the day, what I’m most proud of is that my clients feel heard, cared for, and supported all year long.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
What surprises people most is that I practiced martial arts as a child and eventually became an adult black belt. From an early age I developed confidence, compassion, discipline, and respect. Those experiences shaped me today in learning how to deal with both failure and success with grace.
