Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Paulo
Hi Katherine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for the last 17 years! I’ve been fortunate to experience many specialty areas during my nursing tenure a few being Intensive Care, Integrative Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery. When I initially became a nurse 17 years ago, I understood I would be serving my community by working at the bedside but I found my true passion resided not necessarily at the bedside but instead in treating my communities skincare concerns with the understanding that ‘beauty comes from the inside and out’.
When I discovered Medical Aesthetics and Integrative Medicine I knew I found my passion! As a woman of color, I found I had a difficult time finding a space where I truly felt someone understood my skin type, because skin of color truly is different. Once I began working as a practitioner in this field, I further realized there was also a lack of women of color providing those same services. I feel passionate about creating a safe space for ALL of our clients to feel like their concerns are truly heard and me which is why in 2023 I partnered with Portrait and founded Remedī Aesthetics- a Nursing Corporation, as a space for my community to rejuvenate their skin health and appearance and in return help empower them by optimizing their own true beauty.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being able to work in med spas over the years gave me access to learning the in’s and out’s of the business and in a way prepared me for some of the challenges I would face doing it on my own. As the business owner and employee, being responsible for all aspects of the business has been an adjustment. The road has not been smooth, but as an afro-latina woman-owned business, I expected to come across a few obstacles. The field of medical aesthetics requires an abundance of cashflow and in my case, access to funding has been the most challenging part as a small business owner.

Remedī Aesthetics provides medical aesthetic services with an emphasis on non-surgical skin rejuvenating treatments and integrative skincare products. We note that all skin will suffer from at least one skin condition over the course of time, however we recognize the importance of a tailored and customized approach to treating all skin, but especially in treating skin of color. Our mission is to deliver empowering results to your skins health and appearance via science-backed medical aesthetics and integrated skincare products.
We believe that improving the way you look can impact your confidence in a positive way. We strive to address and improve your skin concerns, restore facial balance and help you feel empowered by your own beauty through our science backed treatment services and medical grade skin products. With every treatment we proudly add a personal and caring touch and elite type of client centered care that everyone deserves to experience. My vision is for Remedī to be the aesthetic studio of choice for offering youthe ability to achieve a more rejuvenated version of you!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I truly believe that you can never grow beyond your comfort zone if you don’t take calculated risks. In 2020, I took a big risk by pushing past my comfort zone and taking my first ICU travel assignment to a state I’d never visited (California) when the entire world went into quarantine. If I hadn’t taken that risk of leaving my family in Florida to move across the country to pursue my dreams, I wouldn’t have been able to have taken the biggest risk of my career and started my own business in a field that I love!
Taking risks can be scary, but can offer you the growth and opportunities that you dream of.
