Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Figueroa.
Hi Karen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Firstly, thank you very much for the opportunity to showcase my studio. I’m Karen, Owner and Photographer of Pet Shot Studios. I was born and raised in El Salvador. I majored in Communication and worked as a TV host for a local channel. Soon after I work as Manager of Public Relations for the Mayor of Santa Ana (my native city).
I was given the opportunity to come to the USA. I visited as a tourist first but then decided to try to start a new life here. It was a hard decision to leave my career and most importantly my family behind.
I believe that every event that happens in your life is a blessing and is part of what God has in your life, why am I saying this? When I was working for the Mayor I was in charge of PR & Press, directing photographers, videographers, graphic designers, & editors) so I was always around cameras. I learned to see photography as an art.
I started doing photography by my own in 2016, working for a Real Estate Company.
But wait! Where did the dogs come from? Well… I’ve always loved dogs, I had a lovely dog named Worfy, but sadly he passed away at five years old, it was so heartbreaking for me.
I remember any time I was at a park or hiking, I always stared at the dogs, thinking, I wish I can have my camera here and go tell the owner if they let me take a picture of their dog.
You know, the photography spectrum is very wide, you can specialize in family portraits, headshots, social events, kids, real estate, nature, etc. but I chose pets because they always bring me joy, happiness and I love them!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, I had challenges, one of them, was feeling unconfident in doing something different, getting out of my comfort zone was not easy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pet Shot Studios?
Pet Shot Studios was born in 2021, I started practicing with my friend’s dogs. After a couple of weeks, I had a small portfolio. Our Instagram account and website were created and we offered free shoots to some of my favorite IG dogs.
The Studio is growing thank you for the support from all our clients. The way that they have showed us their love recommending the studio with their friends, re-posting us on Social Media, and attending our events, is just incredible!
We create a fun and safe place where all can enjoy the process that a photo session required and give them the best memories through our portraits.
During this journey, I have met amazing people and such lovely dogs. I don’t feel that I’m working at all when I am shooting. I really enjoy so much what I do, I can’t imagine doing something different now. Pet photography is my passion.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Is funny, but usually my clients always ask me, what kind of dog do I have…
I don’t have a dog of my own yet, but I am working on it. For now, these photoshoots will do =]
