Hidden Gems: Meet Justin Thomas of JourneyEngine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Thomas.

Hi Justin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For over a decade, I worked in large marketing agencies in the Los Angeles area. Eventually, I became tired of singing the “corporate branding” tune. After gaining experience, I decided to start doing SEO consulting on the side.

As I built up my roster of clients, it became clear that there was an opportunity to focus on building my own agency. We’ve honed and perfected our process for providing exceptional results for education technology businesses, HR tech companies, and startups.

It’s been a rewarding journey; we’re consistently motivated by the positive feedback from happy clients. With each project, we strive to measure, test, and improve our methods to ensure the best possible outcome.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s certainly been a bumpy ride! With the sheer number of agencies in the market, it can be tough to make our mark. Nowadays, agencies need to do free work to prove themselves to potential clients. Most will provide an audit and then make recommendations for the campaign.

We wanted to offer something more than just the free auditing service in order to get noticed. That’s why we developed an ‘Organic ROI Forecast,’ which offers an analysis of the ROI each of our three different campaigns has: basic SEO, content creation, and advanced SEO. We then compare this projection against the company’s ‘business as usual’ to help them decide what type of campaign is right for them. Clients appreciate this report because it helps everyone on their team understand both the actions required for success and how those actions will impact their business.

We’ve been impressed with JourneyEngine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My team and I specialize in helping startups, edtech, and HR tech businesses get more organic traffic, leads, and sales. We focus on the entire SEO process – from keyword research to content creation and distribution – but our main specialty is delivering results. By using a “product-led” approach to content, we’ve been able to consistently deliver positive ROI for our clients.

In addition, we work closely with each client to ensure that their campaigns are tailored specifically to their business goals and objectives. Therefore no two campaigns are alike.

Our clients need content that they can be proud of. Content that generates business results and not just traffic.

Most businesses and agencies are able to write about their products, features, and benefits. Some are even able to generate content that solves customer pain points.. Very few are able to produce content that does both, effectively. And that’s why their content falls flat.

Our specialty is building a “product-led” content strategy. Our goal is to solve the prospect’s biggest pain points while elegantly “story selling” our client’s product as the ideal solution. We do this in a way no other agency can.

Additionally, we’re able to deliver campaigns more efficiently than other agencies because we’ve automated most of the technical components of traditional SEO so that we can focus efforts where a human is still necessary — content strategy.

If a human isn’t necessary to complete a task to its best quality, trust me, we are going to be the first to automate it. We are ruthless in that respect, and it serves our clients in the long run.

I recently explained this concept to another agency owner.. he was visibly upset. As if I was “part of the problem” — the reason agencies like his were losing revenue and employees.

People who think this way are terrified of being “exposed” by data, replaced by AI.. etc. But that’s an anti-growth mindset.

The truth is that these agencies won’t be replaced by tech. But they will be replaced by an agency that adapts at the speed of culture by using the tech to its full potential – That’s JourneyEngine!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We are literally obsessed with delivering unmatched results for education technology and startups. We’re deeply passionate about working with products that make a difference. We’ve refined a process specific to getting results for this type of business and we’re very proud of that.

At the same time, we also strive to build long-term relationships with our clients by providing honest feedback, trustworthiness & transparency in all of our processes. We believe that this approach helps create a successful partnership between us and our clients – one which will last over many years.
