Hidden Gems: Meet Julie Weingarten of Julie Weingarten, CHt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Weingarten.

Hi Julie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up near Philadelphia and originally studied journsilism at Temple University. After moving to San Francisco on something of a whim and later yo Los Angeles,I developed an interest in how our brains work in my early parenting days and then while studying child development in college and briefly working at a preschool. I knew that I wanted to support people emotionally and watching my mom decline despite (and likely due to) a dependency on western medicine, I knew that I wanted to take a more holistic approach. After exploring many different modalities I become deeply fascinated with hypnotherapy, which is science based but also allows for creativity in approach. Shorty after beginning my private practice, I saw the beauty of somatic work and how perfectly it could integrate with the hypnosis and reiki I was already offering. The intervention allows for a very thorough approach as hypnosis works from the subconscious outward and somatics work from the body inward.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I built this career as a single mom and went back to school after age 40. Balancing joint custody, parenting my beautiful girls, education, and then launching my practice was a lot, but so rewarding. In becoming trauma informed, we process our own trauma, so the education was also deep, raw therapy and a lot of learning about myself.

More recently I was displaced by the Eaton Fire in Altadena. Although my home is still standing; it stands, contaminated in the middle of a burn zone. We had a relatively soft landing in terms of insurance cooperation so far and in finding temporary housing, but our community and home of the past 12 years will never be the same. There has been grief, reflection, and continuous reframing of what the future holds.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Julie Weingarten, CHt?
I combine hypnosis with somatic healing to align body and mind, as well as incorporating reiki for energetic balancing.

Hypnosis works from the inside out, by helping one to access the vast part of our brain that we’re not cognitively using, in order to better orient our subconscious with our conscious mind.  An excellent side effect of hypnotherapy is that it is extremely relaxing!

Somatic healing works from the outside in, discovering how and where the physical body is storing and reacting to trauma and emotion; then focusing on the specific areas to clear and release negativity.

I work with clients for issues ranging from habit control to stress relief to motivation to trauma release, and more.  In addition, she helps clients to explore and reframe their experiences through inner child & parts work and past life regression. Julie also teaches hypnosis for childbirth and works with children for various issues beginning at the age of 5.

Workshops and groupwork also have a special place in my heart. Before the fire, my working partner, Maryem Irias and I hosted monthly hypnotic-somatic soundbath workshops in my lovely backyard. We gratefully have just restarted groupwork in a beautiful space in Mt. Washington.

What matters most to you? Why?
Community and empathy are my deepest held values. I’ve always donated and volunteered when possible, but the devastating experience of the wildfire has illuminated the depth of my personal community and community in general. The support provided by friends, acquaintances, and strangers has reinforced the beauty of human connection, Some friends started the Nela Hub, a free shop for fire affected families within a few days of the disaster on January 7th. When I got above water a bit, I joined them and we kept the support going through July. We continue to connect people in need with resources and support mutual aid projects in multiple ways. When people to come together for a cause we can move mountains!
