Hi Joseph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I had a lot of friends who were getting laid off as Covid hit. Many of them started to reevaluate life and what they were doing for their careers. Many of them stated that Covid brought a lot of things in perspective and they realized they weren’t living the lives they wanted especially when it came to what they were spending most of their days on; their job.
But, many of them felt incredibly stuck in their career path based on the choices they’ve made over the years and expressed a feeling of hopelessness that they couldn’t change now and just had to stick with that career as it would be too hard to transition into something new as they have built up certain work experience for that path only. This had a lot of my friends feeling incredibly uneasy so we began discussing why they felt so stuck and how we could fix this problem.
The core of it was that they didn’t have the right work experience to be able to change fields easily or to be able to get the higher-paying jobs that they wanted in their own field. So, we came to the conclusion that if we could just solve that one problem, and give them the work experience they needed immediately so that they could change careers or get the better-paying jobs they truly wanted, this would drastically change their life.
So, my partner and I created JobPrepped which is a Digital Marketing Training + Immediate Work Experience program so people could get the exact training that they need for the jobs that they want as well as the exact work experience that’s going to get them hired much faster and help them advance their career to much better paying jobs so people don’t have to feel stuck anymore waiting for opportunities to fall in their lap but could now instead, move their career at a pace that works for them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is unfortunately never as smooth as you’d hope. Everyone will have ups and downs not just at the start of your business, but throughout its lifetime. For instance, there have been several times where we started to get some good traction on a social media platform, and then the social media platform will change something that forces us to have to change what we are doing. Or, on big pricing deadline days, one of our website plugins might stop working which then all of a sudden drastically impacts the speed of our website. Or, our Facebook ad account getting hacked and not being able to get into our ad account which has cost us almost $50,000 in just 4 weeks. Running a business will never be as smooth as one hopes. You just have to be prepared to handle these types of hiccups so that you can be resilient and move past them and continue to grow while focusing on your mission and how you are trying to make the world better for people.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Starting a business in general is risky. I went from living a very comfortable lifestyle in Marina Del Rey where I’d walk my dog to the beach 2x a day, had a great salary that allowed me to travel whenever I wanted, and the security of knowing I had a paycheck coming in every 2 weeks. But, even with all of this, I wasn’t necessarily happy.
So, I decided to give all of that up to take on a challenge and fix a problem that I felt was hurting so many people. In my 30’s, I moved back home and sacrificed a ton to do this. It took us around six months of work without getting paid a penny before we were ready to start selling our program. From there, we then had to start risking a lot of our own savings that we’ve worked so hard for over the years to put into ads so that we could scale our company to make a livable amount. Each month, we have been putting in more and more of our personal money into ads or into hiring people and you never know what you’re going to get back, unfortunately. All you know is that you have to be able to do this in order to grow your company. I’m generally a very risk-averse person especially when it comes to money, but when running a company, you have to be willing to spend otherwise it will be near impossible to grow.
