Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
When I started Score a Score in 2010, I set out to simplify the collaboration between producers in need of original music and the composers who create it. With nowhere else to go, directors were turning to Craigslist to find musicians and soundtracks for their projects. That void inspired a dedicated marketplace just for this community.
As a solo entrepreneur with no partners, employees or interns, my parents were sweet enough to invite me back into their home where my childhood bedroom became SAS’ first headquarters! At 23 I had relentless energy to prove my worth, with very little to lose. My most monumental realization was recognizing the power of passion and how contagious it can be. Harnessing a genuine excitement for connecting creatives with music solutions is what has propelled the business into what it has become today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning when it was just me, I would travel to New York in the summer for example, sweating profusely as I dashed from meeting to meeting. After a pitch, I would frantically find the nearest Starbucks for free Wi-Fi and a phone charge, run the business for a few minutes, and then rush to the next potential client. I couldn’t keep up. My greatest challenges come with growth. The more that I hustled, the more that I couldn’t handle, and that time of chaos before my ability to afford to hire my first employee was a real challenge. Delegation proved to be an incredible resource to help continued growth and to save my sanity. Today our team is 19 people and growing. I am constantly grateful to be able to focus on my unique strengths to strategize our future as opposed to needing to do it all just to survive.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up with 3 older brothers and my favorite memory is the feeling of all of us being together on the couch after school as the Simpsons opening theme would play on TV.
