Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Basile.
Hi Joe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in the suburbs of New York City, I had a passion for theatre and after graduating from The Theatre School at DePaul University, most of my 20s were devoted to the world of theatre-making. During this time, I worked on my craft to write, perform, direct, and collaborate on plays with a passionate and highly creative group of artists.
I was fortunate to work with the New York Neo-Futurists and part of my responsibilities as an ensemble member were administrative duties including marketing and promotion. After a short while, this seemed like a better fit for me.
After many years of working in theatre, I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and earned a degree in Marketing and Advertising Communications and leaped into the world of non-profit arts management and audience development.
From there, I took another leap to Los Angeles to create Go Humphrey Marketing Solutions. My work focuses on creating highly customized content marketing strategies for service-based businesses. My background in theatre provided a foundation for developing a process for content creation, collaboration, and communication.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been so many hurdles and speed bumps along the way! Living in NYC on a limited budget was certainly challenging as was my move across the country to Los Angeles.
My 1st apartment in L.A. was 130 square feet and the only place I would get phone reception was on my roof so I would have all my business calls there! I learned how to be concise during those calls to avoid helicopters and upsetting my neighbors as my voice echoed in the atrium.
I have certainly struggled with how to fuse my interests in theatre, wellness, and marketing but it has really come together beautifully with the launch of GoHumphrey.com. I LOVE working with service-based business owners and spreading the word about all the incredible work that they do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My goal is to demystify the labyrinth of marketing tactics and information by creating a strategy and plan of consistent action. My process includes competitive research, developing a strategy, content creation, and reporting on results. My skills can translate to businesses of all sizes, and most of my experience is with realtors, architects, interior designers, wellness practitioners, and non-profit arts organizations.
How I work is just as important to me as the work itself!
I have a “Good, Better, Best” approach to project management. This is a transformative approach as it allows my clients to not let perfect be the enemy of good. So much clarity can come from the implementation of a flexible strategy.
In addition, I have a tiered strategy for building audiences and corresponding tactics to reach each of them. More information about both of these approaches can be found on my blog: www.gohumphrey.com/blog
What’s next?
These days I’m always thinking about what I can do better which doesn’t always include getting bigger. Part of my job is to be a filter for all the information out there, so I’m continuing to share information via my blog and newsletter which offers my insights and recommendations. I’m also considering a book in the future along with a sticker collection because who doesn’t love stickers?
I’m also currently expanding my network of artists, illustrators, videographers, photographers, and web designers that I work with to best serve my clients. If you’re out there, feel free to introduce yourself via my IG at @go_humphrey.
