Hidden Gems: Meet Joanne Ramirez of Valley Upholstering Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Ramirez.

Hi Joanne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Opened in small shop in Granada Hills in 1987 but expansion happened fast as we took on the upholstery work of all major Department stores. (macy’s, robinsons, sears, may co.) along with anyone that walked in the door. Began doing new custom booth construction for designers and architects shortly thereafter and have been going strong (slight hiccup with covid) ever since. Have resisted sellint out to larger firms as we didn’t want our name associated with anyone that did not give the personal service my husband and I are able to do. We have thousands of fabric samples for people to select from and offer pick up and delivery for a minimal fee in the valley and surrounding areas. We only advertise on Yelp and have many many many return clients from over the years that we have been here in the same location in Northridge.. We never cover over old Fabric we strip furniture to the frame and remake everything better than it was when it was new. We make certain style changes at no charge and others at minimal charge depending on the type of change we are making.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

After almost 40 years in business we have no complaints and if there ever was we attack with a vengance to correct immediately. We help each client to connect with the exact right fabric that they are looking for to meet all their needs until it is complete no matter how many visits it takes to our show room. Due to the amount of quotes, we have to give daily week quote by photo of item, and some particular sizing that we might need to be able to estimate yardage. We offer patio furniture from scratch or reupholster existing fills. We treat each customer as they were our own family, as we are mostly family here and know how we would like to be treated.
