Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Farrell.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I founded Jennifer Farrell Designs in 2001, my goal was to balance an inventive flair for the theatrical with a sense of cozy comfort to create inspired living. Over the last 20 years, I’ve expanded that dream to find a special intersection where private home life meets public dream life. By hosting and designing on television shows, running a luxury interior design firm, and by creating showcase home experiences, I’ve enjoyed merging the worlds of publicly created dream design and personal home lifestyle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had a somewhat unique journey over the last two decades, balancing my television persona with my interior design career. Sometimes the two have been mutually supportive, sometimes a bit at odds. I think the key moments that changed my trajectory were when my design projects began to be featured on nationally recognized design tours, like Dwell on Design and The Venice Garden and Home Tour. I found myself alongside internationally revered architects and designers like Marmol/Radziner, Jay Griffith, William Baker, and other game-changers who have inspired me over the years. Having my work exhibited alongside theirs definitely helped evolve the way I’m viewed in the design industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
To be a groundbreaker literally means to dig in the dirt where no one has dug before. While I hope those groundbreaker moments are reflected in my home designs – which I feel have a distinct and recognizable statement of bold, clean drama – I think what I’ll be best remembered for are the showcase experiences I’ve created. I’ve spent a dozen years reinventing tattered, forlorn buildings into design fantasies that can not only be witnessed through the remodel process and appreciated in their fruition by design lovers but can also be lived in and enjoyed by homeowners. It’s the concept of blending heightened wish fulfillment, livable functional home, and social media experience into one house that I hope is a groundbreaking way to change the showcase design journey. My goal is to create the ultimate embodiment of that groundbreaking concept at my latest show house, Calibu Vineyard.
How do you think about happiness?
Sleep – I never get enough of it! Good wine, good friends, lots of love with family. Outdoor space, a quiet retreat, fresh air. The simple basics are the happiest gifts in life.
