Hidden Gems: Meet Jeanette Milio of Alliance Cinema

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Milio

Hi Jeanette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
While I was studying business in Germany, which is where I was born and raised, I took a temp position to earn extra money while studying. I was a single mother who had to provide for her small family. This temp position was with one of Europe’s leading network stations , RTL Television., where I worked as an assistant in the Entertainment division that produced daily shows, such as talk shows, game shows, reality shows, and other daily Primetime content. This work gave me the first glimpse of the entertainment industry and I decided right then that I wanted to become a producer. I worked very hard and went the extra mile hoping the network would hire me, And they did, which gave me the option to work my way up. This was the start of my producing career and since then I have produced television series, movies, documentaries and reality programming in Germany in the US. I immigrated to the US after winning a green card in 2000.. my first feature film was a co-production with Fox and a German studio starring Nastassia Kinsey and Timothy Dalton who had just plated James Bond. This cute family comedy entitled “Timeshare” was successfully released .all over the world, and I realized that structuring deals that get movies made, is a strength of mine, and it’s the path to break through as a newcomer in Hollywood.. I focused on co-productions and firm financing and represented film investment funds who invested equity funds in Hollywood films,, worked with banks who provided loans for films, all of which led me to launching my own film fund. I produced and financed films between $ 10 and $35 million in budgets, including “13” staring Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and 50 Cent, “The Experiment “ starring Academy Award winners Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker, “Dark Tide” starring Halle Berry, etc.
To date I have worked o.n over 50 projects with a production volume exceeding 250 million.. I also wrote a book on Entertainment Financing which is a detailed guide on the steps to take to make profitable movies. I teach film and television financing for various educational institutions, including UCLA, Stage32, as well as other institutions around the globe… And, I consult with investment firms and banks, as well as private investors to ensure their investment in content is profitable and they avoid pitfalls that can lead to a less than optimal outcome.
I recently launched a nonprofit entertainment company, which realizes projects that shine light on important issues.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Coming from another country and trying to make your way into the Hollywood industry was difficult. Especially because I immigrated with my then 11 year old daughter, as a single mother. I was an outsider who didn’t know anyone in the entertainment industry.. Hollywood was not waiting for yet another producer because they have producers like they have sent on the beach. I had to stand out, work extra hard, be very focused, determined and a problem solver and I had to find a niche that would help me break into the industry . That niche was film financing and co-productions with studios, networks and streamers..

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Alliance Cinema is known as a production and finance company focusing on content for theatrical distributors, streamers, and network stations. We work with investors and banks to finance content subject to each content piece ( a film, a series, or a non-scripted / documentary show) meeting our very strict investment and distribution criteria leading to profitability with the content we finance and produce, allowing them to be successfully distributed all over the world and be seen by a wide audience.
Our team, furthermore, provides consulting services to investors, investment funds, and other alternative investment groups who are interested in the entertainment space, as well as producers who need help getting their project greenlit.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Working in the entertainment industry makes Hollywood the hub for anyone who is looking to launch a meaningful career. Los Angeles is the media center of the world. While the city has, it’s good and bad sides, it is the best place for anyone who wants to have a career in the entertainment business.
