Hidden Gems: Meet Fransiska Weckesser of The Very Creative Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fransiska Weckesser.

Hi Fransiska, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Dutch entrepreneur living in LA and it all started with me growing up in a small town in The Netherlands I guess :). After a fun childhood, I went to Maastricht, a city in the south of Holland, and studied Chinese & Marketing there. Once I graduated, I got a job as a project manager at an event marketing agency in Shanghai and worked on many great large-scale live events and the World Expo 2010. After a year of living in Shanghai, I moved back to Holland, started my own business, and started freelancing for event agencies, after a few months I got offered a job in Shanghai again and went back, worked as Sr. Project Manager, Vice GM and finally as GM for an event marketing agency based in Shanghai with offices in Beijing and Singapore. In 2014 a friend of mine and I were working on a project for Mini (the car brand) in Puerto Rico and decided then and there that we would start our own business. Fast forward to 9 years later, our creative agency, The very creative firm, is almost turning 8 and I’m proud of where we are now. Covid took a hit on us but also just the fact that you are starting and setting up a country where I had not lived or really worked before. I grew to the CEO of our company and now focus mainly on the operations & well-being of the agency plus its future plans and I love it! Being able to grow from a project manager to CEO is an amazing achievement and I can’t to write this story in 10 years again and see how things have developed then :).

This was all on a business level, on a personal level I’m very happy where I’m now as well. I was single during most of my Shanghai years and met my now husband (Michael Douglas..not the actor..haha) a few months before I was moving to Los Angeles and he didn’t mind moving as well so now fast forward that to 8,5 years later. We are happily living in Los Angeles and have a super fun dog and a very super fun two-year-old daughter. She was born during Covid at 27 weeks and spent her first three months at Cedars Sinai, an almost surreal experience but as a couple and first-time parents, we managed to go through this period pretty well and our daughter Bliss is now like any other two-year-old, a lot of “No’s”..haha!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If an entrepreneur tells you that it was a smooth road, they are lying..haha..but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the road toward where we are now. Every phase and year comes with its own struggles but we’ve overcome most of them and are happy where we are now.

Some of the struggles were, getting a visa, finding new clients, how to do taxes (and most understanding them), getting a correct financial structure in place, etc. All things every business needs and you often learn as you go 🙂

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The very creative firm is a creative agency based in Los Angeles, working nationally & globally. We specialize in large-scale live shows, events, and video production & commercials from concept to execution.

We were founded eight years ago and its DNA is rooted in the creative talent, global experience, energy, and enthusiasm of its two founders, Fransiska and Martin, and its team of creatives and producers.

We differentiate ourselves in our storytelling way of creating content and an understanding of how your brand will be seen from start to finish. We pride ourselves in having a team of expert creatives and producers that pour their heart and soul into making each project a success: from planning to production and execution.

No matter what medium we’re working with, we understand what is needed to accomplish each project. We develop and execute creative concepts with and for brands, commercial partners, and artists. The brands that we work with vary from Louis Vuitton, BMW, and Insomniac to Hilton, Nike, Porsche, MAC Cosmetics, and many more.

We aspire to create media that excites, inspires, and most importantly, instills a connection with our audience.

What makes you happy?
Simple things in life :). I love walking with our dog, Doog, Bliss, our two-year-old daughter, and my husband in the California morning sun every morning :). It also makes me very happy if I make other people happy and smile; therefore love to do fun and cool experiences with our friends & family!

Lastly, I want to say that it makes me happy when I can be together with my family and create beautiful memories.
