Hidden Gems: Meet Evan Urquhart of Vol Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Urquhart.

Hi Evan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for social media started when I was 13 years old. I picked up my first camera when I was about 11 years old and started to make small cinematic videos with my friends. Around the age of 12, I started vlogging on YouTube. Suddenly, my friend group and I started to gain followers. Within a week, we went from literally zero followers to 1,000 followers. I had a feeling we were doing something right, so we kept doing it. Within two months, we were at 10,000 followers. It was crazy to us that 13-year-old boys, who were merely messing around and filming one another, could so quickly gain thousands of followers. By the age of 14, I had already gained over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and I knew I was on to something. From there, I switched gears and began working on my Instagram presence. I came up with a stage name so people at school would not make fun of me. Unfortunately, kids at my school did find out and did make fun of me, but I was not concerned.

After being on YouTube for two years and having over 300,00 followers, I was ready to start thinking about going on tour with my friends. I started to talk deals with management companies and just did not feel comfortable with how their offers sounded. I was now 16 years old and realized that I did not agree with what many management and managers were doing to talents/clients. I knew I had all the resources and the correct friends to start my own company. I could improve upon what management companies were doing right and leave out the unethical parts. I wanted to make sure Influencers were getting what they deserved out of their managers. And so, I created Vol Management. I was a 17-year-old high school kid who was signing influencers such as Brooke Barry, Travis Zip, Amber Menzer, Nessa Barrett, Wot.Denis, Nick Hoax, and Rece Delo.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I love what I do, and I have no complaints, but the road has most definitely not been smooth the whole way. A big challenge from the get-go was my age. As a teenager still in high school, I had to work extra hard to overcome the credibility factor. I worked tirelessly in the beginning convincing my clients that even though I was younger than most, I had enough real-life experience and knowledge with social media to represent my clients. Another challenge I faced was successfully balancing school, football, life as a teen, and work. I feel like this would be difficult for most people, but as a 17-year-old, I was faced with a learning curve.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vol Management is a full-time service agency. We represent Social Media influencers, models, and musicians. Here at Vol Management, we offer a personal but professional feel to our work, in the process of doing that we get to know both you and your followers a lot more, therefore, bringing about stunning results. Furthermore, it means we can work with your needs and provide you with your version of an ideal service.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Los Angeles, the “Land of Opportunity”!!! The city is rich with diversity and flavor. The people are friendly, and the vibe is incredibly positive. The traffic really blows though, and it is hard though for me to see so many homeless people in need on the streets. I wish we had a way of taking care of all of people of Los Angeles in a more productive and efficient way.
