Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Turunen.
Hi Evan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Starting since I was younger, I’ve always had an interest in technology, specifically relating to music. I’ve played drums since age four, but once I entered middle school, I took a strong interest into being a DJ. There was a teacher at my middle school who worked as a wedding DJ on the weekends, and after seeing my interest in being a DJ, took me to some of his events to learn how to set up a sound system, read a crowd for playing music, and interact with clients on a very basic level. Throughout middle school, I continued to refine my abilities as a DJ, growing a small client base doing weddings, backyard parties, and other private events, all while purchasing equipment that I was able to bring back to each event. At the same time, I was volunteering at a local church, learning how to mix audio for live music on a much more detailed level than I had ever seen before. I began to combine the two areas, and move my interests away from being a DJ, and into live event production.
Throughout High School, I continued to grow my brand as a production company, hiring friends as “employees” of the company and constantly expanding my gear inventory to ensure that I was staying up to date with what clients wanted. Since then, my company, Turunen Audio Visual has expanded vastly to support hundreds of private, corporate, and live music events throughout Southern California, along with employing a large crew for different tasks and positions within the company itself. I personally have also been on the road, touring as a Front of House audio engineer with popular local bands all over the United States.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle has been having to prove myself to many clients, as most will not take a teenager seriously despite the end product that we produce being as high-end as other production companies in the area, if not better. Many people aren’t willing to trust that someone as young as myself is able to successfully handle their events, despite the hundreds that we have done as a company.

Turunen Audio Visual is a full-service event production company that offers sound, lighting, video, staging, and power services to private events, touring productions, and music festivals all throughout California, as well as a recent expansion nationwide to support events on both coasts.
We’re most known for having incredible consistency from event to event, and the care taken to ensure that every detail has been thought of, no matter the size of the event. There is always a high level of quality that brands and clients can expect from us time and time again.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to future expansion in new event spaces. As of right now, I’m pushing to work towards gaining more corporate work, as well as work with major streaming services for movie premieres, as those have always been a dream of mine and are now within the scope of what we can provide as a company.
