Hidden Gems: Meet Edward Magallon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Magallon.

Hi Edward, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started with growing up in section 8 housing in Oxnard, California. I grew up in a neighborhood called Marina Village. Marina Village is nicknamed “Blue Ghetto” since all the apartments are blue and it is ghetto! Haha. The plus side was the Beach was close by.

I was raised by a single mother in a tiny two-bedroom one bath apartment. This had a huge impact on my life. Not growing up in a house / having a big home created my love for real estate.

As a kid, I loved to skateboard to all open houses held in nicer neighborhoods that surrounded the “blue ghetto”. I would wonder who could afford these beautiful million-dollar beachfront homes? What did these people do? How did they live?

This curiosity encouraged my interest in real estate.

Growing up poor, I saw that real estate created wealth for people and their families and I wanted to help people do that. Being a son of Mexican immigrants, I wanted to help people achieve the American dream. I love people and I love real estate!

One of my biggest loves growing up was football. I played in high school and was lucky to be able to play in college! Football helped me achieve my MBA from Lindenwood University in Missouri. Once football ended, I needed something that was as competitive, where I could apply my skills in marketing, sales, business, and discipline. Real estate was the answer. This career has allowed me to implement everything I’ve learned throughout my entire life and included a lot of the same qualities that made me successful at football.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. As mentioned, I grew up in a really rough neighborhood with a single mom who was on disability. English was my second language, and I was not the best student. I was always one decision away from ending up in jail or dead. Growing up never knowing my dad had me always dreaming of being a dad.
I ended up having my son, Daniel, at 15 years old. So, I was a dad at 15!

One of the reasons I really wanted to do this interview and share my story is to let people of color, teen dads, and anyone growing up in rough neighborhoods to know that we can still make something of ourselves, regardless the circumstances!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a real estate agent who absolutely loves what I do. I have been selling in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County, Ventura County, and all over Southern California. I have a great network of referral agents all across the country that has allowed me to help many families relocate throughout the US.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be seen on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles as well as have an episode on House Hunters on HGTV.

My goal is to have all of my clients feel they are best-taken care of and that they can trust me. This has led me to have clients who play in the NFL, NBA, and that are top people in music and entertainment.
I have been fortunate to have always been a top agent companywide in the brokerages I have been with.
I feel my calling has always been real estate. It is my passion and I truly love when my clients feel well taken care of and know they have someone on their side.
Real Estate is one of the biggest purchases of your life and I truly feel it is a privilege and an honor when I am chosen to be someone’s agent. I am so excited to see where I will be in the next 30 years with real estate and all of the families I will have helped create wealth through Real Estate.

What makes you happy?
Selling real estate makes me happy! It gives me purpose. I feel I am contributing to the world and making an impact in someone’s life. I love seeing my clients, their friends, and family happy celebrating life in their new home.
The beach also makes me happy. Family makes me happy. I am thankful to have my son Daniel, my girlfriend Kelci, and my Nuna (Gloria) who has been a second momma to me.
Football makes me happy. I love the environment, being outdoors and taking in all of beautiful California! The thought of my mom, Ana makes me happy. I lost her earlier this year in June but the thought of her smile and how great of a mom she was makes me so happy.
