Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Tony Dang of Dang Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tony Dang.

Dr. Tony Dang

Hi Dr. Dang, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Los Angeles and spent most of my childhood in Chinatown and Alhambra. At an early age, I realized how important it was to have a community. Without it, navigating life and all of its challenges can be daunting and exhausting. That’s how Dang Physical Therapy came to be. I started the practice in 2021 as a solo practitioner and now have 2 other Doctors of Physical Therapy on staff. I leaned heavily into the concept of community and was fortunate enough to have the support system to uplift my business to where it is today.

I went to Castelar Elementary in Chinatown, graduated from Alhambra High School, and obtained my Bachelor’s degree at University of California San Diego. A few years a later, I graduated with my Doctorate in PT from St Augustine University San Marcos. My passion in physical therapy stems from my personal experiences of being a patient along with my interests in all things related to sports, exercise, and how the brain works.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most definitely not, but I truly would not have it any other way. Starting a business itself was already a struggle since it’s not the norm. On top of that, there’s a lot of work that goes into finding a location, marketing, understanding the laws and policies, and most importantly, becoming the best practitioner I can be.

We’ve been impressed with Dang Physical Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dang Physical Therapy is a rehab practice that aims to provide wellness, care, and performance training to adults that are limited by their chronic injuries, pain, or issues. Through detailed and uniquely curated plan of cares, we push our clients to reach their potential. We differ from other practices because of our attention to detail and high success rates with our clients. We take a very holistic approach and invest a lot of time in learning about our clients’ tendencies and lifestyle habits that could be modified for the better. Extremely proud of the how we have truly made a difference in the lives of the people in our community. With very little marketing, our practice been built solely through word of mouth.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about this city is truly the people and the food. I get to meet so many different types of people from all walks of life. As an Asian American, it’s empowering and inspiring to see others that look like me thrive and achieve success in this city. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I don’t like seeing small businesses in certain communities get exploited and closed down due to skyrocketing prices and predatory policies that are being abused by big businesses.
