Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Japa Kullar.
Hi Dr. Japa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I stumbled upon breathwork in 2018 in Bali and it changed my life. Ever since then, I dove right in, doing breathwork almost daily and learning from the best teachers all over the world.
I started teaching breathwork in 2020 and due to the pandemic, I launched as a virtual offering. The demand for breathwork – to experience ease, relieve stress and feelings of anxiety or overwhelm – was so huge that the virtual classes turned a passion into a greater pursuit.
Since those early virtual days of breathwork in 2020, I have expanded to offer in-person classes and privates, as well as have organized and led three breathwork retreats of my own. I have grown from offering in-person sessions in my garage in my house to offering them in curated studio spaces around West LA so that more people can take a class in-person and experience the benefits of breathwork.
Breathwork is a growing space and the desire for individuals to experience it is growing along with it. I’m happy to be at the forefront with Japa Breathwork – a boutique breathwork studio on the westside.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The saying, “nothing worth having comes easy” definitely applies here. The hardest part hasn’t been growing into this space because there’s a need and a demand for it, but rather it’s been about stepping into it in the first place. I walked away from a traditional career and in the process of leaving that life behind to pursue this one, I felt the greatest struggle, stretch, and growth within myself as I went through the transition.
I’ve learned that the doors will always open as long as I move with conviction and certainty of who I am, what I offer, my place in the world, and the space I hold for my clients. There’s a phenomenal power larger than me out there to support me but it requires my full trust and faith in myself. That requires daily practice.
Once I started letting go or shedding away the layers of my past identity, the new one started emerging. It’s continually evolving and expanding, and I’m in for the ride, knowing that this work, Japa Breathwork, is my calling at this stage in my life.
We’ve been impressed with Japa Breathwork, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Japa Breathwork is a boutique breathwork studio offering intimate, personalized classes throughout West Los Angeles and online. I guide active breathwork sessions designed to help you release stress, reset your nervous system, and come back to center—to feel more calm, clear, and connected.
Throughout the week, I lead multiple sessions in studios and curated spaces throughout West LA – Beverly Hills, Santa Monica (both in-studio and on the beach), West Hollywood, Culver City, and virtually. Every class is intentionally small – limited to only 8 people – so you never feel lost in the crowd. This work is personal, and I believe the space and setting should reflect that.
What sets Japa Breathwork apart is that I’m not here for the trends. I’m here to help you breathe deeper, live clearer, and feel more like yourself again. My approach blends science and soul, and I bring my background in neuroscience, executive coaching, and yoga philosophy to each session. The breakthroughs and healing is real.
What I’m most proud of is the consistency, care, and community that is coming together to do breathwork. Whether you’re joining Japa Breathwork for your first session or your fiftieth, I create a grounded, supportive space for transformation every time.
If you’re ready to reset, come breathe with me.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I had a pink banana seat bike. I used to love riding it around the neighborhood in the summer late afternoons and early evenings. There was always this sense of inner joy, peace, and connection when I’d be on that bike. It was blissful.
I tap into that same feeling of bliss anytime I go for a leisurely bike ride even now.
And when I do breathwork.
