Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Eugene K. Choi of Neurohacking School

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Eugene K. Choi

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t come from money and I watched financial troubles break my parent’s marriage apart. So I was very focused on how to make money.

So that’s what I did. I chose to become a pharmacist because of the reputation it had for being a well paying, stable career.

So things changed when I first started with acknowledging the dissatisfaction I had. The biggest wake up call was working at my first job as a hospital pharmacist. I got a six-figure salary right out of graduation, the nice sports car I’ve wanted since high school, and the brand new apartment I moved into with my wife.

And I remember getting my first paycheck and it feeling so anticlimactic. I was realizing that this is not what I would’ve wanted my life to actually look like even though I spent so much time and energy working to get there.

But my depression was still there. My anxiety was still there. I had this feeling of numbness and emptiness that wouldn’t go away.

And I already felt trapped in the job because it was what helped pay the bills and my massive student debt.

So it took about three years before I decided to quit to take an opportunity to become a filmmaker with the group from Jubilee Media.

They offered me a position because I was already dabbling with making content at the time and they liked it.

So making multiple viral films with them taught me one of the skills of marketing. TO be able to create a piece of content that gets very widely shared (without paid ads).

I ended up running out of money so I went back to pharmacy.

Then I got leadership experience because I ended up getting promoted and managed six major hospitals and over 250 clinics as a supervisor.

I eventually hired a business coach coughing up like $18K for it because I wanted to try to build my own business again.

Through their guidance, I was able to generate over 1 million views on my own articles I started writing.

This caught the attention of their CEO so they offered me a job to be one of the companies business coaches and work for them. And that he would mentor and train me in business along the process.

So that’s how I got business coaching experience by coaching over 20 businesses a month to help them grow.

And eventually one year an article of mine went viral with over 7 million views which helped me go full time in my business.

And what I noticed in a lot of clients is that they would learn about the right strategies but not execute on them.

Then when talking to them on how to manage their mindset, they loved learning about it, but didn’t apply it.

So I asked myself, what can we do about those experiences where we know what’s good for us and what we should do, but because we don’t feel like it we don’t do it?

This is where my healthcare background came in handy.

I learned that the higher functions of our brain like critical thinking, creativity and empathy just to name a few are not being accessed for a majority of our adult lives. This is due to the stress we feel daily. Think about how often you might feel angry, frustrated, anxious or depressed each day.

And research shows that emotional pain can be just as painful as physical pain based on the way your brain processes information. This is why we often feel stuck, procrastinate or burn out.

So I dove deep into neuroscience and learned what it takes to solve this. I was able to take the information and share it in a way that’s easy to understand and easy to implement.

Then I started sharing this work with clients and spoke on stages and watched all the mindblowing results that people would have simply from learning a little more about how their brains work and how they can tap into those strengths and gifts they have. At will.

I’ve been doing this work ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. The first time I went broke and had to go back to pharmacy, it was such a huge hit to my ego. What was even more difficult was when my business took off I was able to hit the level of revenue for the first time where it surpassed what I would’ve made as a pharmacy supervisor.

Then the following year, it was the lowest amount of revenue I’ve ever made.

That was a moment of deep self doubt and plenty of thoughts of giving up altogether.

It’s especially harder because by that point because I had little kids to provide for.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business helps leaders and business owners learn the scientific secrets that activate their unique gifts.

We specialize in training and coaching to help people develop the skill of getting out of their reactive survival state at will. This helps immediately turn on their brain’s higher functions so that they experience clarity, get their focus back, and boost their energy.

Ultimately they feel a lot better and perform much better as a result.

What sets me apart from other is that my clients love my diverse set of skills and experiences.

I have the healthcare background as a clinical pharmacist, which is what gives me the ability to break down the brain science of performing better.

I have the marketing experience of having created actual viral content vs other marketers that promise results but haven’t achieved it for themselves.

I have the business coaching experience having done my 10,000+ hours of coaching and learning from some of the greatest business minds out there.

I’m most proud that my brand is all about cultivating the safe spaces for each other and ourselves. And as a result it helps activate the part of our brains we really need.

I’m excited about a community I built called Neurohacking School. It provides the training you need on how to develop the deeper skill yourself to activate your own brain’s hidden talents. In addition to that, we have live meetings to connect with each other and learn together once a month.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of our city. I love the creativity and passion to express our truest selves through our work.

This city is the reason I’ve met some amazing people along the way that inspired me to keep doing the same.

Having grown up in New York City, I love that I don’t have to shovel snow anymore here. And also that there are no hot humid summers where mosquitoes come and feast on you. =)

I’m not a fan of the heavy traffic and how far you have to travel to get to different areas. When I first moved to LA and someone would tell me that the place we are going to is really close, it meant at least a 20 minute drive. In NYC, close means like 5 minutes where you’re a subway stop away.
