Today we’d like to introduce you to David L. Reed.

Hi David L., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Reed’s Active Martial Arts and Wellness Club LLC: Our Story
Grandmaster David L. Reed began his martial arts journey in 1970, training in Judo and Jujitsu at the local YMCA—a pursuit initially sparked by being bullied at school. This early experience established a lifelong dedication to the disciplines. Over the decades, Grandmaster Reed expanded his training, exploring diverse styles including Tang Soo Do, Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, and Tai Chi Chuan. He transitioned from student to instructor, beginning to teach professionally throughout the 1980s and 90s.
A Partnership in Mastery
In 2010, Grandmaster Reed met his wife, Master Lady Lallaine Reed, in Germany. Master Lady L. Reed is an equally accomplished martial artist with an impressive record of expertise. Her current credentials include:
• 6th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do
• 5th Degree in Wei Kune Do
• 1st Degree in Taekwondo
• Certified in Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Tai Chi Chuan, Qigong.
The Masters began teaching classes together in Germany, pooling their extensive knowledge and complementary styles.
Founding the Club
Grandmaster David L. Reed and Master Lady L. Reed eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where they founded Reed’s Active Martial Arts and Wellness Club LLC.
As the club’s co-founders and head instructors, they personally teach a diverse curriculum focused on comprehensive wellness and practical self-defense:

They currently serve the community through lessons held at a park in Encino, as well as offering online Zoom classes and private lessons to students of all levels.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The story of Reeds Active Martial Arts is a powerful example of resilience. The school was thriving until COVID-19 hit, leading to a devastating year without students. This forced them to close their physical location in Northridge. However, the Reeds refused to give up. Like many martial arts schools that face ups and downs, they found a way to continue their mission by adapting to teaching in the park and online via Zoom. Their ongoing dedication to teaching is truly inspiring.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
