Today we’d like to introduce you to Corina Madilian.
Hi Corina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved the personal relationships that can develop when you work with retail clients. This led me to open my two shops in San Marino’s Mission Village. Single Stone San Marino offers a curation of fine jewelry from designers I respect and whose work I feel is classic and timeless. It is also the perfect jewel box setting for our own jewelry brand, Single Stone. What started out as a selection of vintage jewelry and antique diamonds has grown into our own collection of vintage inspired, hand crafted jewelry that still focuses on repurposing antique stones. We work closely with clients to build their jewelry wardrobe and to repurpose heirloom jewelry pieces already in their collection into wearable treasures they will love and enjoy. A few years later, and just down the street, we opened Serafina – a California-chic, lifestyle boutique that offers a wonderful selection of apparel by contemporary designers, jewelry, handbags and accessories and a curated assortment of gifts for the home and new baby.
Our jewelry brand and San Marino shops are a perfect reflection of who we are and our love for beautifully made objects to decorate ourselves and home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The ever-changing retail landscape always creates obstacles and opportunity for growth. We are constantly competing with online platforms, and larger corporate distributors that have margins and capital to adjust to the economy. As a small business, we strive to provide our clients with a thoughtful environment and a wonderful client experience when in our shops.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I own two shops in San Marino – Single Stone, a multi-brand, fine jewelry boutique and Serafina, a multi brand, lifestyle shop.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I try to live my life very simply – to stay focused on what is important to me and not be swayed or distracted by all of the noise and passing trends that can clutter my outlook. I love to read, watch movies (in the theatre), do the Times crossword puzzle each night before bed. I rarely listen to podcasts or have much use for apps other than Instacart.
