Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Allison.
Hi Chloe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Alli.C because it has always been a childhood dream of mine to own my own business, and since day one, I’ve loved fashion. (As a toddler I would sleep in my favorite pink patent leather shoes and dare anyone to take them off LOL).
So, after high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion, so I enrolled in college at the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design, better known as SCAD, where I studied women’s and children’s apparel design and found my niche in children’s fashion. I graduated with a BFA and honorable mentions in apparel design in 2006 and moved to New York to work in women’s and children’s fashion design for Kenneth Cole. After my time there I went on to design for several children-only apparel brands to further my skills and knowledge of the childrenswear industry.
In 2010, after fashion week, getting a paycheck every two weeks, and designing for some great apparel brands the market crashed and we were in a full recession with layoffs and hiring freezes. With the new landscape of the fashion industry, it was time for me to head home and finally make my dream come to fruition- opening my own unique, timelessly fashionable children’s apparel and accessories brand. (As you can see, I like to take a risk.)
And thus in 2011 Alli.C was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Hahaha smooth road, I wish! One obstacle was finding a sewing contractor in the USA that would sew small minimums for a reasonable price. Everyone wanted orders of 500 plus pieces, and I was like can you do 50 pieces. I’m just getting started. Also, marketing is a continuous challenge; it’s HARD! My expertise is in design, so marketing is a new skill I’m constantly learning and working at.
As you know, we’re big fans of Alli.C. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Alli.C is a children’s design house that uses luxuriously soft fabrics sourced from around the world to create exclusive heirloom quality clothing & accessories. We design timeless silhouettes with modern details. For parents who value style and comfort for their child’s delicate skin.
We are known for our luxuriously soft silk-lined baby blankets and hats. And are proud to say that all of our manufacturing is done in the USA.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is making hair scrunchies with my grandma. She would let me use her professional industrial sewing machine, and we would cut the scrunchies out of scrap fabric she had left over from work.
