Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Proctor.
Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Real Estate feels like it fell in my lap (after stumbling around a bit in a post 2009-recession job market). I started as an unlicensed assistant for a small development firm. Two weeks into that gig, I decided to get my license. I liked the idea of helping people realize their goals + the transparency of the transaction.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! Not in the slightest. There are common challenges from being a woman in business, especially a woman of color. You have to find good mentorship, not just a boss or a team lead. You have to be willing to swap hats and wash a window or two when need be. You definitely have to have the thickest of skin, and a honing of the profession to stand firm in such a climate. I’ve been fortunate to have the network of support in the same vein, encouraging me and cheering on the growth of my business. I very much look toward paying it forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Whether buying, selling, leasing resale or new construction my real estate philosophy is equally rooted in a genuine love for people and getting the best results, for THEM. I want my clients to take advantage of the best each area has to offer. When they feel good about the decisions they’re making, I know I’ve done my job.
I never represent both sides of a deal because I want my clients to have ALL of my focus for their end-game and be 100% in their corner for the duration.
“Brass tacks” is something my clients hear me say a LOT. I am a straight shooting no-frills EastCoast native who like to keep it 100% at every juncture, even when the process gets tough.
I’ve learned a lot about the art of the deal via strategy study/poker. It’s a hobby of mine that has really sharpened my game in real estate 😉
What’s next?
I was recently recognized on the Real Trends America’s Best List, ranked in the top 1.5% of over 1.6 million Realtors nationwide.
I started a small team! I had ZERO plans to do this, but it is important not to keep the knowledge I’ve gained in a silo, especially women, black agents and/or agents of color in this business.
