Hidden Gems: Meet Chelsea Harrison of Chelsea Harrison Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Harrison

Hi Chelsea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When we first moved to our place in 2020, we knew it would be a very enjoyable neighborhood to live in. We also loved the character and vintage charm of our 100-year-old (or so) apartment and actually, our landlord grew up in our house. Her grandmother was a cert respected and successful podiatrist in the 1940’s or 1950’s. It’s funny because we also know another doctor that lived right down the street and whose son still lives in the same apartment, to this day. We love the history of the area and feel honored to be able to be a part of this community.

However, when we moved, we immediately started a to-do list of what felt like an endless number of small cosmetic upgrades and DIY styled projects, to really maximize the aesthetics and functionality of our “new” home. On top of those details, while we loved the amount of space we had in our new place, the actual layout of the floorplan and lack of storage options required a LOT of creative brainstorming.

I remember thinking, “I really wish I could hire someone who could just tell me all the ideas, products and have an eye for style that could just come in here and do it all for me.”

Little did I know, the idea for my business was born. Ever since 2021, I’ve researched, learned through experience, and even incorporated software to help clients plan, budget, shop, and install renter and home owner friendly designs that have a focus on quality materials, organizational systems, family friendly details, and cosmetic only upgrades. By only focusing on changes that are not structural, we’re usually able to complete in-person room designs in 30 days or less, with only 1-2 days devoted to installation. Virtual design packages, in 1-2 total weeks.

I truly enjoy helping clients make confident purchasing decisions, stretch their budget, and minimize their stress.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Thankfully, my earliest clients are some of my closest friends and family. Actually, some of my closest friends were the original ones to urge me to start a business AND some of my very first clients.

To build my confidence and experience level, I happily completed my first few projects for no charge or for discounted rates. Plenty of delays and mistakes were made, but I ALWAYS made sure to prioritize my clients and tried to go above and beyond to make sure they felt like their hard earned money was well spent. I always sincerely appreciated their trust in me, in these sometimes very personal areas of their lives!

My first paid decorating project took almost TWO months to complete, and it was simply decorating and reorganizing a 5-tiered kitchen shelving unit. 🤣 My daughter had gotten sick, it was around the holidays (life gets crazy), and mostly, I was still figuring out how to shop efficiently and manage time effectively.

But, every single project I take on I try to push myself to work smarter and to progress in every aspect. Things are certainly much smoother these days, but when making SO many purchases for household related items, unexpected situations are bound to happen. I just make sure to be transparent, communicative, and bend over backwards so that my clients are thrilled and taken care of.

We’ve been impressed with Chelsea Harrison Designs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Los Angeles based, virtual and in-person interior designer with a passion for mixing beauty and function. I enjoy working with families or individuals who are seeking quality, durable, practical materials and/or organizational systems that allow the entire household to live happily and harmoniously. I’ve completed more than 30 projects in
LA and across the US.

Because I focus on cosmetic-only upgrades (no structural changes), I am able to plan projects within a matter of weeks and usually only need to devote 1-2 total days for installation.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I do brand collaborations on Instagram, when I find a company with unique and/or qualitative products. I also LOVE partnering with other local home decor related small businesses, such as woodworkers, custom furniture makers, hand crafted items, artists, etc.

To best support me, I would live to keep in touch via social media @chelseaharrisondesigns
