Hidden Gems: Meet Brittney Holmes of Atelier Holmes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Holmes.

Hi Brittney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early age, I was intrigued with cameras—not just as a tool, but as a passport into storytelling and access to creatives and events. This fascination led me to formally study architecture and photography in Los Angeles, disciplines that deepened my understanding of design, storytelling, and the interplay between space and image. While completing my undergraduate studies, I pursued the independent music scene, photographing and interviewing bands for two alternative magazines. Outside of the studio, I was simultaneously gaining hands-on experience in film production, working behind the scenes on music videos spanning a wide range of genres—from hip hop to hardcore (2008–2011). These formative years taught me how creative concepts evolve into tangible outcomes, and offered invaluable insight into location scouting, set design, prop sourcing, and casting.

In 2013–2014, I was referred to photograph a few weddings—an entirely new territory for me at the time. While I enjoyed it, I didn’t actively pursue it, as my creative focus remained rooted in conceptual series, editorial work, and music-driven projects. Nonetheless, this initial introduction to wedding photography quietly stayed with me, eventually resurfacing in 2022 with renewed relevance and vision. The decision to start my own studio derived from a deeply personal experience. After the loss of a loved one, I found myself searching for a meaningful way to process that grief and express my creativity. This led to the founding of Atelier Holmes—a space where creative vision finds purpose, and where creative expression is guided by intention and connection. Photography is more than just a medium; it offers access to extraordinary moments and people, deepening my sense of purpose and perspective. Over time, Atelier Holmes has evolved into a collaborative platform, partnering with likeminded creatives and becoming part of our clients’ most cherished life events. From curating wedding inspired editorials, to capturing bridal fashion week in New York, and honoring my clients wedding day vision; all of this is a reflection of a need to create, connection and document. Atelier Holmes continues to grow—expanding into new creative paths while staying rooted in our ethos.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any business; building a network is critical. Through social media I was able to learn about industry related organizations that bring photographers, videographers, content creators, bridal boutiques, stationary, musicians, florists, and so many more creative’s together. I am still very much in the process of connecting with other industry professionals and expanding our network with those who inspire us. It is a slow process but we’re along for the ride.

As you know, we’re big fans of Atelier Holmes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Atelier Holmes is a multidisciplinary studio specializing in wedding and bridal fashion photography. Early in the wedding planning process, we help translate our clients wedding creative goals into a cohesive design plan: offering custom mood boards, personalized photography experiences, and style guides for pre-wedding photoshoots. To maintain a client-centric approach, we intentionally limit the number of weddings we photograph per year. This strategy allows us to dedicate ourselves fully to each couple’s unique vision, ensuring we understand their priorities for their wedding day and fully integrate ourselves into their planning process. We believe that building a connection based and client-focused business is about delivering imagery that reflects their values and creating an unforgettable experience. By supporting our clients throughout the planning process and fostering strong relationships, we ensure every couple is heard and celebrated. Atelier Holmes is committed to investing in each couple, and celebrating their love through both photography and design.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating brings me joy. There’s nothing quite like watching an idea take shape—whether it’s through lines on a page, a project coming to life, or people uniting around a shared purpose.

A big part of my happiness comes from my husband. His constant support and encouragement give me the freedom to dream big and pursue what I love. Traveling with him and discovering new places is one of my favorite things—we make such a great team. I’m incredibly lucky to be his wife.

At the heart of it all, my relationship with God and my family is everything. They are my greatest source of strength and happiness.
