Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleksandra.
Aleksandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, my story is a bit of a whirlwind, filled with twists, turns, and more than a few language barriers. Picture this: I moved to the US from Russia at the age of 15 with my family, with no knowledge of English. It was like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded – challenging, to say the least. Having my family there made the biggest difference – we were a team.
Fast forward through the high school and college chapters, I graduated early with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I have always been interested in understanding the human mind and creating quality relationships around me. I have tried a lot of different career paths, but none of them felt like my true calling. I have done babysitting, caregiving for seniors, real estate, customer service… You name it. However, all of those paths shared a common thread: a deep-seated passion for helping people. It was like my career GPS was constantly recalculating, but I kept moving forward, undeterred.
Then, one day, the stars aligned, and I learned about coaching. It was like finding the missing puzzle piece that completes the picture of what I wanted to do with my life. I got certified and started my own practice. Now, I am a relationship coach, helping people navigate their relationships and guiding them toward creating the healthiest and happiest ones. But that’s not the end of the story. Oh no, I did not stop there! I’m currently in graduate school pursuing an education to become a therapist. I love having my plate full of stuff I love doing.
And now, here I am, juggling coaching sessions, grad school, and enjoying this beautiful life. My background in growing up in a completely different culture is something I hold very close to my heart. I believe it helps me understand and empathize with people on a deeper level. My story is a fun ride, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? Not exactly. The language barrier when I first arrived in the US was the first challenge until I was able to overcome it a few years later.
Then came the career exploration phase – it was a bit like trying on different hats, and some of them just didn’t fit right. I faced the classic dilemma of finding the perfect balance between passion and practicality. It took a few detours, a couple of dead ends, and a lot of introspection to figure out what truly ignited my professional spark. I realized that I would rather go out of my comfort zone now than be unhappy doing something that does not bring me joy five years from now and have to step out of the comfort zone then. Every opportunity that comes your way now is worth taking. Trust the immigrant, I know.
I would not call any of my past experiences “struggles”. I would say some definitely were challenging but I knew I had enough willpower and determination to get through any of them. Especially because I had (and have) the support of my best friends – my family. So, I would not change a thing. I love every part of my journey, and I definitely learned a lot from. I believe taking a risk is always scary in the beginning, but once you do – you figure it out on the spot.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think, I am the luckiest to have such an amazing support system. My family truly guides and supports me in anything I do, and I feel very grateful for that. In terms of being lucky in life and business, I believe I have worked hard enough to call it a result of my efforts. Sure, some things probably happened unexpectedly and can be seen as luck, which is totally fine. Knowing which direction I want to move in and having clear goals set for myself truly helps me see where I want to be both in life and business. Luck alone won’t save me. Luck AND smart work? Now we’re talking.
