Heather Binns shared her story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Heather, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is the level of trust, safety, and belonging that exists within Renov8 Fitness®. On the surface, people see workouts, coaching, and physical transformations, but what they don’t see is the deeper emotional work that happens behind the scenes. Over the years, I’ve created a space where people of all genders and backgrounds feel seen, supported, and respected. Many of my clients come to me after injuries, burnout, or years of feeling disconnected from their bodies. Helping them rebuild not just strength, but confidence, identity, and self-worth is what lights me up the most. It’s the messages I get months later when someone tells me they finally feel proud of their body again or that they’re no longer afraid of getting hurt that remind me why I do what I do. That transformation goes far beyond fitness, and that’s the part nobody sees, but I’ll always be most proud of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Heather Binns, a Health & Fitness Strategist, endurance and OCR coach, best-selling author, and the proud owner and CEO of Renov8 Fitness® in North Hollywood, California. I empower adults to awaken the athlete within and break through self-imposed limits, cultivating strength and resilience to achieve extraordinary health, fitness, and confidence they never thought possible.
What makes Renov8 Fitness® special is the human connection behind it. My work goes beyond reps and routines to help people rebuild trust in their bodies, restore confidence, and rediscover joy in movement. Every program I design integrates fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle principles in a way that’s sustainable and realistic for everyday life.
My work also goes deeper into the mind, spirit, and soul as each client progresses through their journey, because every transformation is deeply personal and meaningful. I’m in a season of refinement, aligning my business and message even more closely with my values of inclusivity, transformation, and authenticity. My focus is on helping people move better, feel better, and perform better through a truly personalized and empowering experience that honors the whole person.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve thought deeply about this question because I tend to take things literally. When I think about “the world,” I see it as the environment I grew up in that valued structure, discipline, and order. My parents worked hard to raise us with strong morals, faith, and a sense of responsibility. I was brought up in the Lutheran church, and religion was a central part of my life through childhood and into high school. While my spiritual beliefs have evolved over time, that foundation helped shape the values I still hold today.
As a kid, I was smart, active, curious, and full of energy. I loved movement, creativity, problem-solving, and being social, but over time I learned to quiet my instincts, become comfortable being alone, and meet outer expectations instead of following my own inner voice. That voice was silenced for a long time. Those experiences made me incredibly driven and resilient, but it took years of self-reflection to realize that my worth isn’t defined by perfection or productivity.
Through deep spiritual growth and intuitive healing, I’ve reconnected with who I truly am: A compassionate, strong, social, driven, and grounded woman who leads from both heart and awareness. I honor the lessons that shaped me, but I no longer let them define me. Today, I live from a place of passion, trust, and alignment, guided by my intuition and my soul, and that connection has transformed how I live, lead, and serve myself and others.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Ironically, I feel that this shift truly happened within the past year. I just turned 51, and it’s as if something inside me finally clicked. I began to see that every struggle, every injury, and every hardship I’ve endured wasn’t meant to break me. It was meant to shape me into the woman I am today.
I realized that my pain had a purpose. Each challenge I’ve faced has given me the ability to understand others on a deeper level. You can’t truly help people through their struggles unless you’ve walked through your own. My experiences taught me to fully embrace my empathy, strength, and resilience in ways that no amount of success ever could.
A few years ago, I discovered that I am neurodivergent, and hearing that changed everything for me. It made so much of my past make sense and helped me understand that there was never anything wrong with me. I’m simply wired differently, and that’s part of what makes me unique and powerful.
I am now proud to be the multifaceted person I am… A beautiful, neurodivergent, bisexual, athletic, intuitive, empathetic, and strong woman.
Today, I no longer hide my pain. I use it as fuel to help others rediscover their strength and awaken their potential. My journey has taught me that our hardest moments aren’t meant to define us; they’re meant to refine us into who we were always meant to become.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely. What you see is what you get with me. I’m very literal, straightforward, and to the point, and I don’t know how to be fake. The public version of me is the real me. Of course, there are personal sides of me that not everyone sees, but my core values, beliefs, and authenticity always come through.
I’ve built my life and business on honesty, growth, and integrity. I believe in always striving to become the best version of myself and never stopping the process of learning. Education, curiosity, and personal evolution keep me grounded. While I still have perfectionist tendencies, something that comes from both my upbringing and my neurodivergent nature, I’ve learned to give myself grace. I love order and structure, but I also understand that life is about balance and enjoyment.
I don’t pretend to be perfect. I love good food, cocktails, and lazy days like everyone else. What matters to me is consistency, self-care, and purpose. I want to stay active and strong for the rest of my life and inspire my grandchildren, clients, and community to do the same. My goal is to live long, live well, and help others do it too, not through rigidity or perfection, but through self-awareness, compassion, and joy in the journey.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’ve thought about that before. If I were to pass away, what would people say at my funeral? I hope they would say that I was a positive, influential person who truly made a difference in their lives. That I motivated and inspired them, helped them become the best version of themselves, and made them feel seen, supported, and valued. I hope people remember me as someone who cared deeply and who lived life fully, with purpose and heart.
For a long time, I minimized parts of myself, like my intuition, my sensitivity, and my spiritual connection, but not anymore. Over the past year, I’ve embraced all of who I am and stopped dimming my light. I’m finally leading from a place of truth, alignment, and courage, and I know this is only the beginning.
I’m doing what I was born to do, not what I was told to do. I spent years in the corporate world before realizing it wasn’t where I belonged. When I stepped into health & fitness, everything shifted. I knew I was meant to help others move, heal, and grow, not just physically but mentally and spiritually. Now, as I continue exploring my intuitive gifts and deeper purpose, I know my impact will only expand.
I want my legacy to be one of transformation, authenticity, and empowerment. I want people to remember me as someone who gave everything she could to help others believe in themselves, move their bodies with confidence, and live with strength, joy, and intention.
