Fumi Ozaki of Westminster on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Fumi Ozaki. Check out our conversation below.

Fumi, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me begins with returning to my wellness routine—exercising daily, eating mindfully, and prioritizing restful sleep. As my body evolves with age, self-care has become essential. I have learned to trust my instincts and take ownership of my work-life balance, which is key to thriving as a self-employed business owner. This intentional rhythm helps me stay grounded, energized, and fully present for my clients who rely on my technique and practice.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Fumi Ozaki, founder of ‘O’ de Kirei—a private skincare and permanent hair removal studio located in Orange County, CA., rooted in care, precision, and trust.
With over 20 years in the beauty and wellness industry, I bring deep expertise in product development, education, and client-centered service. My studio blends Japanese sensibility with personalized attention, offering a calm, welcoming space where each treatment is tailored to support your skin’s health and your peace of mind. I approach every client and outside projects with the same intention: to uplift, connect, and care deeply. ‘O’ de Kirei isn’t just an ordinary skincare/salon business—it’s a reflection of my belief that beauty begins with kindness, and that every detail matters.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that shaped how I see the world was when I transitioned from the corporate world to running my own practice. I had spent years involving with developing products, training teams, and navigating fast-paced beauty markets—but stepping into entrepreneurship requires a different kind of strength. Suddenly, every decision reflected not just strategy, but my values.

I learned that success isn’t just about scale—it’s about integrity, care, and connection. I began to see the world not as a race, but as a series of relationships: with clients, collaborators, and myself. That shift taught me to listen more deeply, lead with intention, and honor the quiet power of consistency. It is a perspective that continues to guide how I work, write, and show up for others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: “Everything will be alright.”

There have been struggles over the years, but I’ve learned not to let worry about the future overshadow the present. Living in the moment with intention, care, and trust has become my compass. The day-to-day routine will always bring challenges, but I believe that each one is an opportunity to rise, to grow, and to reaffirm my purpose.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My core belief and daily commitment—is to cultivate client loyalty through unwavering professionalism, one-on-one attention, and a clean, safe, and relaxing environment. At ‘O’ de Kirei, I infuse every service with ‘omotenashi’, the Japanese spirit of hospitality. It’s more than a warm welcome. It’s a philosophy of attentive care that fosters deep trust and comfort.

From the very first visit, I focus on personalized support tailored to each client’s goals, whether it’s becoming hair-free for life or enhancing skin health. I honor their personal and mental space by remaining quietly present during treatments, allowing me to sense their needs without words. When I do speak, I try to meet their gaze with kindness and clarity, answering questions, easing concerns, and offering guidance with respect.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I believe my clients would miss more than just the services I provide. They will miss the comfort of knowing they’re in caring, capable hands—someone who listens, remembers, and genuinely wants them to feel their best. Many have told me they look forward to our time together not just for the facial or electrolysis treatments, but for the calm, connection, and confidence they leave with in my practice.

As for me, I would deeply miss the rhythm of my workdays, the joy of seeing familiar faces, and the quiet satisfaction of helping someone feel radiant and cared for. It’s a privilege I never take for granted.
