Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Creese-Brown.

Yasmine Creese-Brown

Hi Yasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for art began in high school, a transformative period in my life. Although I had not yet fully faced the challenges that would later shape me, this time sparked my passion for social justice, civics, and humanitarianism through the arts. Not being very athletic, I used my time to start a club aimed at providing us with opportunities to volunteer in the community. In 2010, when an earthquake hit Haiti, we decided to host an art gallery to raise money for donations. Though I don’t recall why we specifically chose an art gallery, the experience left a lasting impact on me. That was my first experience witnessing how art can contribute in a meaningful way.

I had a deep appreciation for community work and shared similar interests with a few fellow students. A nonprofit organization that visited local churches, schools, and communities to raise awareness about the longest-running conflict in Africa particularly resonated with me. It was a well-known movement at the time, and I decided to get involved. My friends and I, who were enrolled in a course called “Leadership,” spent numerous hours planning events and raising awareness to ultimately bring the nonprofit to our campus. This cause spoke to my heart and remains my most memorable high school experience.

Years later, I found a way to channel my humanitarian spirit through my skills and talents. As the owner of Grlpire, a publishing company driven by a profound celebration of art and storytelling, I have continued to merge my passions for art, social justice, and community service. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been easy, and like any journey, it’s been marked with its fair share of struggles. One of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way is the difference between transparency and grace. Sometimes, we confuse the two, thinking that being transparent about our challenges means we’re handling them with grace. However, the times I haven’t leaned into grace have been the moments I failed the hardest.

To accept grace is to move on to the next chapter, and that has been crucial in navigating difficult times. Challenges are a part of life, and they’re there for us to overcome through faith, grace, and hope. They’re also presented to us to learn from. Life is like a test, and if you are a person of faith, you understand that grace is a gift. It’s our job to accept it and let it guide us through adversity.

Each struggle has been an opportunity for growth and reflection, reinforcing the importance of faith and the strength that comes from embracing grace. Through this mindset, I’ve been able to move forward, learn from the past, and continue pursuing my passions with renewed purpose and determination.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
