Today we’d like to introduce you to Tuanni Price.
Hi Tuanni, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in South Central Los Angeles and was not exposed to wine early in life. I was in my 30’s when my interest in wine peaked. One evening while dining at the St. Regis Hotel, I was snubbed by the Sommelier. From that moment on my goal was to learn and share as much as possible about wine and its accompanying lifestyle, enabling me to help others avoid that feeling of intimidation. I started a wine club with my friends, I studied with the Society of Wine Educators, North American Sommelier Association Abe the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. I traveled the world sipping and learning about wine. Then in 2018, I expanded my business to Cape Town South Africa, I spend part of each year contributing to the diverse and exciting wine industry there. My business Zuri Wine Tasting offers its services to clients and wine lovers in both the US and South Africa.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s actually been an exciting road to travel. I have been welcomed graciously and enthusiastically by industry professionals and consumers. One of the biggest obstacles is access to capital for large projects. It makes scaling my small business difficult.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am on a mission to make the complicated world of wine simple. In fact, that is the motto of my wine lifestyle business, Zuri Wine Tasting. I am a certified Sommelier and wine enthusiast my business is to curate wine lifestyles from Southern California to the Southernmost part of the globe in Cape Town, South Africa. I use my brand, Zuri Wine Tasting, to host private tastings virtually and in person, I teach wine classes and host wine tours. In addition, I produce small to large-scale wine experiences for corporate and non-profit clients. My proudest event today is an annual event called Wine Over LA. It’s a 3-day wine festival featuring Black-owned wine brands and professionals. The finale is on a yacht in Marina Del Rey.
How do you define success?
Success to me is creating a business that results in a legacy and a positive impact on the community. There are so many people who have learned about wine and become engaging members in wine culture. Whether these people spend money with me or not, I know my influence has directed them to a wine-filled life where they travel and dine on new levels. This is the best success. When I look at wine events as of late and I am not the only one in the room, I feel proud, I feel successful!
