Exploring Life & Business with Tiffany Ly of Browink Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Ly.

Tiffany Ly

Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My interest in permanent makeup began seven years ago with simply just wanting to get my own eyebrows tattooed. Sadly, however after waiting six months, the experience was not what I had anticipated due to the poor customer service. The idea of becoming an artist myself has always crossed my mind, and after much consideration, I used the last bit of savings that I had and invested it into a training course. This leap of faith was the best decision I ever made. I felt so lucky to find a career I’m so passionate about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most college students, our parents want what’s best for us. So, going to college, getting a degree, going into the medical field was what my parents wanted me to do. When I told them I wanted to leave school for the semester to pursue my business, you can probably imagine that they were not thrilled. The idea of me starting a business with no stability worried them, which in turn gave me some doubts and stress about if this was the right idea. However, I told myself that this is the career path I want to do, this is something that I am passionate about, and I will do everything I can to not only make this a strong business but also make them proud.

As you know, we’re big fans of Browink Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
When you think of the brand Browink you instantly think we only offer services pertaining to brows. However, after being in the industry for several years, we’ve branched out. My services expanded to lip blush tattoos, eyeliner, dusty eyeliner, skin needling, and tattoo removal. As an artist, I’m constantly looking to perfect my craft, so I’m always taking on courses and attending conferences to stay up to date with the latest techniques. Being so passionate about what I do, I decided to share my knowledge to others. I also conduct training courses in all the services I provide. Our courses are not limited to those who are in the beauty industry already but to those have are looking to change their career path with no experience at all. It brings me joy that people travel so far to not only seek my services but to learn from me as well.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
When it comes to any small business, there will always be some risks from time to time. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken after deciding to leave school was to open up a studio with a stranger. It had only been six months since I had taken my first client, and I was lucky to have had a steady clientele. Another permanent makeup artist had reached out and asked me to open a studio with her. At first, I had my doubts, but I thought the timing couldn’t have been better since all my debts have been paid off and I’ve already built a strong book of business. At the time, I was only 26 years old, still living with my parents; I never paid rent in my life and was signing on to a commercial lease agreement with someone I barely knew. I can gladly say that this was the best investment ever, and I learned that taking risks can be scary but also can be very rewarding. If you don’t take risks, sometimes you may never know your potential.
