Exploring Life & Business with Shelton Trainor of Personal Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelton Trainor

Hi Shelton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into personal training wasn’t just about fitness—it was about transformation, both for myself and for the people I help. Growing up, I was always active, but it wasn’t until I started coaching and training others that I realized the real power of movement. I began my career working with youth athletes, then transitioned into personal training, refining my knowledge in strength training, weight loss, and overall fitness. Over the years, I’ve worked in gyms, private settings, and now with RS Fitness, where I get to help people move better, feel stronger, and crush their goals. My passion is making fitness not just effective but enjoyable—because, let’s be honest, if you’re not having at least a little fun, you’re doing it wrong!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road—more like a challenging hike with some steep climbs, a few wrong turns, and a couple of scraped knees along the way. One of the biggest struggles was finding my own training style and philosophy in a world flooded with fitness trends and quick-fix solutions. I had to learn to filter out the noise and focus on what actually works—real, sustainable progress.

Another challenge was balancing the business side of personal training with my passion for helping people. Early on, I realized that being a great trainer isn’t just about knowing exercises; it’s about understanding people, keeping them motivated, and adapting to their needs. There were moments of doubt, setbacks, and long hours, but every challenge shaped me into the coach I am today. And honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing—it’s all part of the grind!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Personal Training ?
At RS Fitness, my focus is on helping people move better, feel better, and live longer, healthier lives. I specialize in teaching proper movement mechanics to prevent injury and improve posture, ensuring that my clients not only reach their fitness goals but also maintain them pain-free. It’s not just about lifting weights or burning calories—it’s about learning how to move efficiently in your body so you can stay active for life.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail when it comes to form and function. I don’t just throw my clients into a workout; I assess their movement, identify imbalances, and create a plan that improves strength while correcting posture and preventing future issues. My goal is to build strong, resilient bodies that move well in and out of the gym.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. RS Fitness isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about long-term success. Whether you’re an athlete looking to optimize performance or someone who just wants to move pain-free in daily life, I create a training experience that’s effective, sustainable, and tailored to you.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
A huge part of my journey wouldn’t have been possible without my friend and mentor, Alison Roessler Campbell, the owner and creator of Truve Gym in Downtown Oakland, CA. She played a major role in shaping me into the trainer I am today. Alison not only taught me the science of movement and strength training but also showed me what it means to truly care for clients beyond just workouts. She instilled in me the importance of building a supportive, inclusive fitness environment where people feel empowered to reach their goals.

Beyond Alison, I have to give credit to my clients—past and present. They push me to keep learning, improving, and refining my approach every day. Seeing their progress, hearing their stories, and being part of their fitness journey keeps me motivated and reminds me why I love what I do.
