Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Shamar Marcus, and I’m a 25 year old entrepreneur. I was born in Guyana and migrated to the beautiful island of Saint Lucia at a very young age of which I currently reside. Although I reside on the island I would consider myself a digital nomad as I am constantly traveling to different destinations! I dropped out of my second year of college to pursue a job as a tennis instructor at one of the island’s resorts. During that time, I had many side hustles and hobbies. After 1.5 years, all of my hobbies turned into full-time work where I was unable to continue working the 9-5 job. At that very moment, I sent in my resignation and took the next step.

My dream was to become a pilot, but the financial costs were beyond my reach. I found a career where I can still fly, but in a different capacity. I founded Sky Crew Films. I started out as a drone operator, and as time progressed, Sky Crew Films transitioned into a creative media agency. We curate social and commercial branded content for our clients all over the world. We partner with creatives, and we have been fortunate to work in beautiful destinations such as Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, the Bahamas, Saint Lucia, London, Barbados, Nicaragua, Zanzibar, Cape Town, and Johannesburg in South Africa!

Vampped Media, my second business venture, was born during the covid period. I was stuck in Maryland with my family for five months, and this was one of the most challenging financial periods for me. Despite this, I created a social media marketing agency where we work with clients anywhere in the world, digitally. To date, we have four full-time team members working on our clients’ accounts. Our team is enthusiastic about social content and growth. We work with clients in various niches, but they’re all focused on growing their accounts and attracting new traffic to later convert into sales.

Mantra Juices is a cold-pressed juice business that uses fresh fruit and vegetables to curate our healthy juice blends. They are 100% cold pressed with no additives, water or sugar, just straight-up juice! I started making healthy juices and immunity shots in 2020 for my family every day, originally calling it the “covid killer”! I thought this would be a cool idea for a business. My sister and I immediately did our research on recipes, branding, and choosing a business name, and we did the work to get it started. We now offer our cold-pressed juices, immunity shots and Nut Mylks in Saint Lucia, and my Aunt Sharon launched Mantra Juices in the DMV area a year later. My goal with this business is to be a franchisor. Our team has the full blueprint and I would love to see this little brand we started grow into something globally.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all, but being patient has given me grace, so it does not feel as rocky. One of the main struggles for me has been financing. I bootstrapped all of my businesses. Doing that has taken quite some time, given that I now own four businesses, after starting at age 18, right out of college.
We’ve been impressed with Sky Crew Films, Vampped Media, and Mantra Juices, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Personally, I get anxious if something is unfinished and not perfect. This is only natural since I am a creative. I have been able to find people who, like me, all share this same passion and these same goals. Our team is highly talented, and everyone brings something different to the table. The team members and their ideas, work ethics and love for what we do is what makes us the A-team. Clients appreciate the little things which I call systems and processes. We aim to make everything as streamlined as possible from the beginning to the end so that the client’s expectations are exceeded. We treat our clients like family because we are genuinely invested in their business’ progress, in their health or on their journey to a healthier lifestyle.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe that, now, social content and marketing has become the new norm. Every individual is their own brand thanks to social platforms. It has become easier for the average person to grow an audience and have that audience invested in their day-to-day lives. This is good for my industry as it is growing exponentially and this is where we fit in by providing management, content and marketing online. With our juice business, post covid, the world saw a major shift. Persons are more health conscious and are making steady changes to their diets, workouts and well-being. Everyone wants to live a healthy lifestyle and our business model fits in perfectly, so I see us growing very well in the near future!
