Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Ryan Rubin, D.C of Synergy Chiropractic and Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ryan Rubin, D.C.

Ryan Rubin

Hi Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a young athlete playing soccer and running track, I constantly was getting injured throughout the year. My first inspiration of becoming a chiropractor started in high school when there were no other options for returning to play except with the treatments I received. That is when I knew chiropractic was my calling. I got a background in Kinesiology with an emphasis of Exercise Science for undergraduate. While in school, I was a personal trainer working with multiple clients of all demographics. Following undergraduate school, I attended chiropractic school to further my education. While in school, I obtained multiple certifications such as corrective exercise specialist, active release technique, kinesiotaping, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. I got additional training in New York before returning to Los Angeles. Once I started practicing, I got involved with multiple youth soccer clubs being a team doctor on the field. While going through the growing process, I partnered up with another chiropractor and we have grown our office to now having multiple practitioners; chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists and personal trainers. My philosophy is to give the best quality treatment to get any patient back to no pain or minimal pain and have lifestyle changes that can help prevent future issues.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business isn’t always a smooth road. I wouldn’t want it any other way, but school does not teach you how to run a business, file taxes, manage employees, and wear all the hats. In the beginning of practice, the first struggle was growing my clientele and getting people to know what I do and who I am. The next big struggle we have for a short term was during the lockdown and COVID. I was always unsure what protocols to do since they were always ever-changing, on top of patients not wanting to come in. We had to let all our employees go during that time. Coming out of the pandemic, we were busier than ever. We are opening our second location and the biggest struggle is finding the right people that align with our philosophies and treatment styles. It is always a learning and growing process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are an all-inclusive practice that sees athletes and patients of all ages. We have multiple high-end modalities that other offices do not have that speed up the healing process. These include class four hot laser, pulsed electric magnetic field, full body cryotherapy chamber, and spinal decompression. A patient experience usually gets 1-2 practitioners each visit ensuring they are getting the best treatments and outcomes possible. We spend quality time with the patients and individualize treatments with each patient. We have a team of other professionals that we can get 2nd opinions and if needed, images same day or next day. For youth athletes, we do baseline concussion testing to make sure there is a good way to test for return to play. For daily workers, we evaluate squat and posture examinations to make sure to take a full approach. Our goal is to get a person out of pain and focus on prevention. We have a wellness program where a patient can get treated once a month by either a chiropractor or physical therapist, deep tissue massage, and session in cryotherapy. Our bodies take a lot of stress and it’s the best way we can care for ourself.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something most people may not have known is before I found my inspiration to go into this field, originally wanted to be a marine biologist.
