Exploring Life & Business with Ruby Diaz of Mucho Amor Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Diaz

Hi Ruby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi everyone! I was born and raised in South Central, and as a first-generation Latina, I never imagined having my own business. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 2017, I felt lost and unsure about my next steps. I found a job at Ross Dress for Less, starting in the stock room and working my way up to assistant manager within a year and a half. At that point, I thought I had it all figured out. Coming from a Mexican household where my dad worked for the same company for over 20 years, I believed I’d do the same at Ross. However, deep down, I knew I could achieve more, though I wasn’t sure what that looked like.Everything changed when I met Ana, who is now my partner in both life and business. Her and Her family are business oriented and have guided me on this journey. One pivotal moment was when a friend asked me to help plan his proposal. That sparked the idea for Mucho Amor Events. A few months later, I shared the idea with Ana. I realized I had the skills to create luxurious proposals for others. I started gathering supplies, beginning with “Marry Me” letters and gradually expanding offerings. Once I made it official, I planned my very first proposal just a couple of months later. It all came together beautifully. With Ana’s photography skills, we could offer clients a two-for-one experience, making us even more appealing. My passion for proposal planning grew, and I discovered how much I loved running my own business. Now, what I used to make in two weeks at Ross, I can earn in one day. Building something I can call my own and having my name behind it is one of my proudest accomplishments. I wouldn’t be here without the incredible support system around me. In just two years, Mucho Amor Events has flourished, and I am now booked every week.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road definitely hasn’t been easy. I often wrestled with self-doubt and the “what ifs.” Over time, I learned to shift my perspective and build confidence in my offerings as an entrepreneur. When I launched my business, I was overwhelmed with anxiety. One significant learning curve was mastering florals. Initially, I struggled, but after taking a class, I was able to expand my options for clients. Finding reliable vendors for quality roses at reasonable prices was another challenge. I explored downtown markets to discover the best fits for my needs. Additionally, I learned where to source essential items like candles and vases to create the luxury proposals my clients desire. Throughout this journey, I made it a point to enjoy the learning process and maintain a positive outlook. I researched permits for various locations to ensure a smooth experience for my clients. I also learned to think like my clients, treating every proposal as if it were my own. Looking back, I wouldn’t change anything. Each obstacle taught me valuable lessons and shaped my path to where I am today. This journey has inspired new business ideas and solidified my passion for proposal planning. I love witnessing my clients’ reactions, from the customer service to the proposal setups, culminating in the moment their significant other says “yes.” Being a proposal planner isn’t for everyone, but for me, it’s truly fulfilling.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

As a first-generation entrepreneur from South Central, I’m particularly proud of what I’ve built. Being the first in my family to establish a business is a significant achievement for me, and I aspire to be a role model for my siblings and my community, proving that your background does not dictate your future. My business journey has reshaped my perspective and opened doors for new opportunities, including a second business venture I’m excited to explore. I want readers to know that Muchoamorevents is more than just a service; it’s a commitment to making love stories come to life. We’re here to create magic and memories that last a lifetime.

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck often shows up unexpectedly, whether through meeting the right people at the right time or being in a supportive environment. I feel incredibly fortunate that Mucho Amor Events began when it did, and meeting Ana was a pivotal moment in my journey. Before her, I never saw myself as a business owner. She provided the encouragement and confidence I needed to take that leap. If I had started my business right out of high school, I likely wouldn’t have had the support system essential for success. I might have felt lost and unsure about where to begin. Plus, building a business requires investment, both financially and emotionally. I truly believe there’s no such thing as bad luck. Life is shaped by how we manage our circumstances, and our responses to challenges greatly influence our future. Every experience has been an opportunity for growth, and I’m grateful for the journey that’s brought me here.
