Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Parish.
Hi Nikki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Licensed Esthetician and Professional Makeup Artist and founder of Resting Witch Facials based in DTLA. Yes, I am a witch. I’m an astrology loving, coffee drinking, spouse, pet mom and local neighborhood council woman in Atwater Village.
What sets me apart as an entrepreneur is that I’m a skin witch, a lot of my clients are also witches, feminists, healers and all-around rad humans. I have been told I have magic hands, and I give excellent facial massages. I am most proud that, as a brand, I was able to come out of the broom closet and meet and treat so many incredible witches and humans. For the witchy readers out there, my big three are Leo rising, Sun Taurus and Aquarius Moon. And the only water in my chart is scorpio. So if you know… you know what type of energy I’m putting out into the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any entrepreneur, they will tell you, it is never a smooth road. I started in this industry as a cosmetic sales and educator traveling all over the southwest working for fortune 500 companies. My rebellious nature and social advocacy frequently had me in conflict with my contemporaries and I knew that entrepreneurship was the path for me. After working as a freelance makeup artist in production for several years, I was still missing that autonomy I really wanted in my career. I became a licensed esthetician and opened RWF. Resting Witch Facials is my most successful business and feels so in alignment with what my soul’s purpose is, by blending my love of witchcraft and beauty and to bring that to my clients aka my coven. That being said, LA County prohibited Facials for over a year due to Covid-19. I went through a lot as a small business owner and I’m proud to say that I advocated and succeeded in getting legal facials back in LA County in April. I reached out to news outlets, the county board of supervisors and health department. My argument could not be ignored. In less than a week, legal facials were back! Since reopening, I have been booked months out in advance and I am so grateful to my clients and to be back for in person services. And for the rewards & challenges that continue to present themselves as an entrepreneur.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I founded Resting Witch Facials in 2019 as a solo esthetics practice and I am currently in the process of expanding with employees. RWF focuses on an integrative approach to therapeutic facials & skincare. At RWF I want clients to experience the alchemy of the holistic approach to facials met with the power of clinical actives and botanical ingredients to help heal their skin and relax their mind. Additionally, RWF offers brow lamination (a trend amongst Hollywood celebs) & lash enhancements by Saint Mykle Beauty. Every facial, brow shaping, lash enhancement and product recommendation are curated and bespoke for our clients, with an emphasis on cruelty free, non-toxic, organic when possible ingredients. Every skin condition & human is welcome.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You will fail, but you have to get up and keep moving forward. Networking is so important, try your best not to burn bridges. Although, often when one path closes to you, the universe presents an alternative path. Be open to those opportunities and know what you stand for.
