Today we’d like to introduce you to Neama Rahmani.
Hi Neama, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. My grandfather was a judge and I wanted to follow in his footsteps in the legal world. My law career started at the age of 22 when I became one of the youngest graduates of Harvard Law School. I worked at O’Melveny & Meyers, where I met my partner, Allen Patatanyan, representing large companies such as Disney, Marriott, and the Roman Catholic Church. After that, I joined the United States Attorney’s Office as a federal prosecutor where I successfully captured and prosecuted someone on “America’s Most Wanted.” I was then appointed to be the Director of Enforcement of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission.
But I wanted to become a trial lawyer to help everyday people. Allen and I reconnected in 2014 and started our own law firm. As President and CEO of West Coast Trial Lawyers, I oversee a team of attorneys and staff who help injured victims in accidents or of workplace misconduct seek the justice they deserve.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve handled thousands of cases and helped clients win over one billion dollars. Because of my background in criminal law, I’m now a regular legal commentator on news and television and enjoy providing my legal analysis on today’s top trials. I’m also on the UCLA Political Science Board of Advisers, my alma mater, and enjoy giving back to the community that helped me get to where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting over is not easy. I began my career working in big law and then worked as a government lawyer for many years until I decided to become a trial lawyer for the people. When Allen and I started our own law firm, we were a small group of attorneys all working together in one room. And the business of law is very different than the practice of law. Finding the right team of people who share a similar vision and passion for helping others was difficult. But we’ve built a strong group of attorneys and staff who I’m very thankful to work with.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Helping people: there’s no better feeling than winning a case for someone who has suffered an injustice. When people call our firm, they’re often at the lowest points in their lives after facing terrible incidents of harassment, discrimination, wrongful death, and more. Even though I can’t go back in time to prevent that injustice from happening, I hope to give them a voice by getting them justice.
On top of helping our clients, I’m fortunate to be able to work with amazing people. Over the years, I’ve learned that you spend more time with your coworkers than with your family. And as President of my firm, I get to choose high-energy, smart people to work with everyday. Watching them grow and learn throughout their journey makes me happy.
