Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan McLachlan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first started distilling over a decade ago, when I moved from my home province of British Columbia down to Los Angeles. I was inspired by Southern California’s diverse flora and quickly started distilling anything I could get my hands on, from cantaloupes to clementines to tomatoes.
That passion for plants eventually led me to co-found the Spirit Guild, one of LA’s first craft distilleries. Since I first founded the distillery in 2012, I’ve gone on to develop several botanically-driven beverage brands, including AMASS.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think it ever is! Before I started distilling, I had another life as a camera operator in the film and television industry. Both the film and spirits industries are archaic in a lot of ways, so I certainly faced a lot of challenges as a young woman in a male-dominated space.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about AMASS?
At AMASS, we believe in the power of plants to empower connection. From botanical beverages to personal care products, we make premium botanics for modern life.
Our line of botanical beverages includes our Dry Gin, Botanic Vodka, Hard Seltzers, and a non-alcoholic spirit, Riverine. It was important to us that our product range invites everyone into the bar, whether they drink a little, a lot, or not at all. That’s why our beverages run the gamut from high-proof spirits to low-ABV seltzers to non-alcoholic options, all of which are made better through the power of natural botanicals.
Our personal care portfolio includes home fragrance essentials like botanic candles, soaps, and sanitizers. We use natural botanical aromas to provide a luxurious sensory experience.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Some of my fondest moments from my childhood were spent at my grandparents’ house in British Columbia, just roaming around the forest.
