Hi Mont’sha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m 21 years old & I was born in Buffalo, NY. After sophomore year, I received some good news that I have more than enough credits to graduate and all I needed was my exams. I worked so hard to pass my exams after a few trials and errors and when I finally received the news that I passed—I instantly knew I was capable of way more than what I thought. At 17, I launched a hair extensions line named Silk Charming. It was amazing for a fresh start out of high school but between working full time in Dietary and fulfilling orders—I lost passion for hair. I knew that I wanted to be in the beauty industry but I wanted something that is more meaningful to me and not just a quick hustle.
That’s when I started digging into skincare more. My skin never agreed with me. I use to put bandaids on to cover up the massive pimples I had and I suffered severely with acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. I tried almost every product that was out at the time to clear my skin, everything was either a temporary fix or making it completely worse. After a few years of testing my recipes, I launched my brand Milli Cleanse at 18 & was able to quit my Dietary job & go full-time defeating acne.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is no such thing as a full smooth road as an entrepreneur, eventually when you keep driving down that road—you’ll run across some bumps. My mental health became one of my biggest challenges yet. Becoming a better you come with so much self-doubt and it affected my performance a lot. When I entered into e-commerce, that’s when everything got real from the high demand, order fulfillment, digital designing, customer service, etc.—ALL AS ONE PERSON. It was a lot for me but I knew if I kept feeding my mind with negativity and not gaining control, I will crash and that was my biggest fear.
That’s why you have to feed your mind with nothing but positivity. Your mind is the root to your performance. I’ve learned to sometimes just take a step back & realize that you are fine, nothing is permanent unless you make it.
