Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Kieu, Do Facs
Hi Monica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, it’s been quite a journey! It took me a few detours to finally decide on medicine, but I truly believe I found my calling. I began my medical career with a deep interest in both art and science, which naturally drew me to the field of facial plastic surgery. My journey started with my residency which gave me a solid foundation in head and neck surgery, followed by specialized fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. I was fortunate to study under some incredible mentors who helped me refine my skills and develop a keen eye for detail.
Early on, I focused on building a strong reputation by taking on challenging cases and continually seeking to improve my techniques. Networking with other professionals, attending conferences, and staying up-to-date with the latest research were crucial in advancing my practice.
As a native to Southern California, I have always be aware of a strong emphasis on aesthetic beauty, I found a niche that perfectly matched my skills and interests. The diverse and dynamic environment here allowed me to expand my practice and develop a reputation for both technical excellence and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Today, I continue to push the boundaries of facial plastic surgery by integrating the latest technology and techniques while always prioritizing personalized care for each patient. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for the experiences and the people who have supported me along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge has been navigating and succeeding in a traditionally male-dominated field. Although medical schools in the U.S. have reached gender parity, the number of women in surgical subspecialties is still relatively low. During my training, I encountered subtle, unintentional biases favoring my male colleagues. I embraced this challenge by focusing on becoming more decisive and confident in my clinical judgments.
Today, I view my gender as a distinct advantage. Since the majority of individuals seeking cosmetic procedures are female, I find that I can connect with my patients on a more personal level and understand their concerns more intuitively. This unique perspective has enriched my practice and strengthened my ability to provide empathetic and effective care.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At our practice, we focus on providing a comprehensive range of facial plastic surgery services with a commitment to both aesthetic excellence and patient-centered care. We specialize in procedures that enhance facial features while maintaining natural harmony, including facelifts, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facial contouring, and non-surgical treatments like injectables and skin rejuvenation.

My background and training allows me to bring a refined, artistic touch to my work, balancing technical precision with a keen eye for aesthetics.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Both having a mentor and serving as a mentor are crucial for personal and professional growth! Start by joining professional organizations and attending industry conferences to meet established, like-minded individuals. Seek out mentorship opportunities by reaching out to colleagues whose work you admire, and don’t hesitate to ask for guidance or advice. Building these relationships often involves being proactive, showing genuine interest, and demonstrating your commitment to the field. I would also encourage everyone to volunteer in some capacity, whether locally or abroad. Participating in global medical missions has greatly shaped not only my surgical practice, but also how I want to raise my daughter as a meaningful contributor to society. Engaging in these experiences broadens your perspective, enriches your skills, and fosters a deeper understanding of both your profession and your personal values.
