Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac Rivera.
Hi Mac, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I think my story is a story of diversifying and evolving one’s identity while making best use of the cards one is dealt with. I believe we’re all meant to do more than just one thing and congruently expand into different areas of life, but grow where one is meant to be.
I come from a business management and entrepreneurship background. Just like many, I started with a managerial type of job more than ten years ago, then I ended up helping a few small businesses along the way and a couple of start-ups when they presented themselves. I basically formed my own managerial support service business. Eventually, my need to have a creative outlet drove me to pursue writing and then photography. I wrote and researched for five years, varying essays on human psychology or personal development, through my blog and currently finishing a book, while my photography business gradually grew from three years ago, and I’ve come to establish a network with fellow creatives who love creating content as well.
Now, all of these led me to my most recent venture: Forever Drift. It’s interesting how things fell into place because a management job can drive you nuts if you have artistic inclinations. Writing and researching personal development is fulfilling but was making me sit too much thus, outfield artistic pursuits were inevitable. Photography then allowed me to go outside more.
I happen to be a car enthusiast as well. While growing my photography business, I rescued a classic roadster, partly to help with some of my fashion and portrait shoots and in the hopes of getting a big automotive photography contract.
All of these somehow were aligning together. One day after coming home from a cars-and-coffee event, and where clothing (or “merchs” as they call it and a word I don’t like) are usually promoted through their social media, Forever Drift just came into my mind and it never left me since. Since I’ve done plenty of shoots, met business owners along the way, wrote compelling storylines and recently restored a car, having and marketing a clothing business with the brand just made perfect sense.
It’s not at all planned. I think it just so happens that when you do different things, even if they seem entirely unrelated, they somehow have a connection or they align, and they’re bound to lead to something.
To me, Forever Drift™ is more than just about cars, drifting or being a car enthusiast. It’s more than just a clothing brand. It represents our human need to go places and expand our experiences while having fun, even if we don’t fully know where we’re headed, and it definitely doesn’t hurt to look cool as you do so while being reminded of a bigger message: keep exploring and growing, and whatever happens there is only one driver in your life-it’s you.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Among other things, it’s been difficult because my Dad passed away when I was in college. I ended up supporting my family firsthand as much as I can. Getting things right, whether in business or relationships, just took longer for me. I consider myself a late bloomer. I’m still learning and working on many areas of my life, but I can say with confidence that I can see things clearly.
I also got really sick several years ago, which was a major setback, but it led me to prioritize what’s important and rethink a lot of things in life.
Life just happens, but you keep moving on.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Forever Drift?
Forever Drift is one culmination of my managerial, entrepreneurial and creative pursuits. I can safely say that Forever Drift is a clothing brand born of time-tested ethos that can make it become a well-known brand. What sets this brand apart from others is it’s an unforgettable brand that can go global and I believe in its potential to do so with a message that’s just more than about cars, but about going places and expanding life experiences.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I don’t consider myself successful not until Forever Drift becomes a well-recognized brand. If it were to, who knows, I’d say that you have to be emotionally aware and mature to be able to execute many things that you want. Foresight and discernment are important. There were many things I didn’t understand before and lessons took longer to sink in, unlike right now, I’d instinctively know whether something is worth it or not. We need logical intelligence but it isn’t enough. Our minds aren’t really good measuring sticks—more so if you’re emotionally compromised in one way or another such as simply filling a void. You need to be able to get a good feel of what’s really out there as well and not just what you think. We’re in a society full of logic, but not many are hitting the mark.
