Exploring Life & Business with Liz Espinoza of 28 Jewels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Espinoza.

Hi Liz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a stay-at-home mom, helping my husband out with all the invoicing for his landscaping business. I definitely felt a little lost in those 2 roles. I needed something for myself! We talked about me returning to work, however, we both agreed it wasn’t right for our family’s needs. He suggested I start my own business! Anything to do with fashion was just a given for me. I decided on accessories! I’ve always loved dressing up casual outfits with the perfect accessories! The name 28 Jewels was born from the date all three of our children were born; all on the 28th day of the month! An extra special part of 28 Jewels is my 21 years old daughter, she’s a big influence on everything I bring in! All items are handpicked by either her or myself!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, since I had not had an online presence, getting my name out there was definitely a struggle. I think I expected to go live with my website & make all kinds of sales! So I actually gave up after a few months. It wasn’t until I began vending at popup/market events that I gained a following & some returning customers. Something I still struggle with is putting MYSELF out there. Making sure I’m the face of my business has been a struggle. I get a little camera shy lol!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 28 Jewels?
28 Jewels is a small business specializing in fashion accessories such as gold plated/filled jewelry, small handbags, hats & hair accessories. Everything is handpicked by myself or my 21 years old daughter. All items are a direct reflection of our personal style!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think just starting a business is such a risk! One to DEFINITELY be applauded! When I first began my business, I’d buy in very small quantities. As time went on, I’d up those quantities. And every time I do, I get a bit of a rush/fear. I never know what will do well or what I might get stuck with!

Pricing:

  • Under $40
