Today we’d like to introduce you to Liat Gorodenzik.
Hi Liat, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Liat, a native of Southern California, earned her Bachelor of Design in Textiles from Shenkar College of Art, Design, and Engineering in 2012. I began my career as a fabric consultant in Tel Aviv, gaining global experience with a Swiss fashion label and honing my craft in weaving during my time in Zurich, Switzerland. Transitioning to New York City, I have excelled in the Visual Merchandise department at ABC Carpet and Home, specializing in visual design, window design and floral arrangements. Subsequently, I extended my expertise in Amsterdam as a stylist for DeBijenkorf and continued in my floristry with a upscale dutch floral studio, it was in A’dam where I discovered and found balance through yin yoga, ultimately becoming a practitioner myself.
Driven by a commitment to natural materials and sustainability, I have dedicated the past five years to do intensive textile research, with a focus on knitwear, circular solutions, and eco-conscious materials. My forthcoming women’s wear line, ílát reflects my holistic approach to design, integrating my reverence for nature with innovative techniques. Continuously seeking inspiration, I actively participate in international workshops and industry fairs, embodying a dedication to both creativity and ethical practice of natural materials and a focus on skin health and the affects materials have on the body. .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m not naturally a business or numbers person, so learning how to manage pricing, budgets, and operations was a big challenge. But those struggles taught me to adapt, ask for help, and build systems that now support the creative side of my work
