Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyyla Renee
Hi Kyyla , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My road to entrepreneurship began as a journey of self discipline and love. My life simply wasn’t where I wanted it to be by the time I was in college. I faced a lot of family and home adversity growing up, and I desperately wanted things to be different. At the time, I couldn’t change my circumstances, but I could put forth effort to change the unhealthy habits I had in my life. I began to invest in myself by working out. I lost weight and my shape was that of someone who was in shape and healthy, and this urged some of my peers to ask for fitness plans. And that was the start of Klean by Kyy (FKA Aktive Fitness). I started with digital product, and apparel soon followed. In 2022, two years into my brand, I moved to California from my hometown Newark, NJ. I sell workout plans and nutrition guides, and help thousands of women not only attain their dream bodies or reach their fitness goals, but also gain a sense of self discipline and love. My plans are also affordable and a great alternative for people who cannot afford in person trainers. Another goal is to expand to an app that is more tailored to a clients individual needs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I first launched, digital products in e-commerce was not common. People were skeptical about purchasing digital items, because the masses didn’t recognize the importance of intellectual property. People would say they could just Google the workouts, before they realized that I was tailoring my plans for different fitness goals. As time went on, and I remained consistent in my own fitness journey while documenting it, people began to see that my voice was worthy in the fitness industry. They wanted my advice, and my business started booming!
Even during success however, there will be hiccups. Due to my genetic makeup and the way my body sits, I began to receive BBL allegations, which caused my brand to take a direct hit. Supporters felt betrayed based on rumors circulating the internet. It was honestly a really tough time for me. Nobody is perfect, but to have someone spread a lie so egregious, that directly contradicts my lifestyle and ethics, was extremely difficult to navigate. With the support of friends and longtime supporters, I pushed through and just focused on the REAL.
We’ve been impressed with Klean by Ky, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded my (sister) company Klean by Kyy in 2022. Formerly, it had been AKTIVE fitness, but I wanted to refine it. I decided to make my brand more personal and more garnered around me and my journey. I don’t see myself as a fitness guru, just someone who is dedicated to being my most healthy self. I motivate people differently that way, and feel like there is more of a connection between me and my supporters/clients. We’re on the journey together, it’s like I’m everyone’s accountability partner. I love what I do and I hope to be able to continue doing this and expanding.
Any big plans?
Aside from the app I mentioned, I would love to have my own all women’s gym. A space for all the girls to feel empowered, strong, and work on their best selves.
