Exploring Life & Business with Kirby Robinson of Kirby’s Herbal Delights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirby Robinson.

Hi Kirby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business to provide for me and my son by doing what I love and that is creating things and being artistic. Since opening in 2018, we started out with our handmade bar soap; eventually we grew and we began to make more and more products becoming masters of our craft, from making self-care products to many other essential items. We cater to all and try our best to make something that everyone can use from our candies we put in our orders to the ingredients we use in our products. We make sure our customers know we are committed to our craftsmanship by allowing customization along with order inquiries which gives our customers the ability to notify us of an ingredient they are allergic to so that we may substitute it. We make a wide range of items from skincare, haircare, body care, kids items, clothing, jewelry, art, toothpaste, lip care, and so much more all natural and handmade by myself. I love what I do and I love that my son loves helping me do what I love. Running a business has always been my dream from childhood to adulthood and being able to run a business where I can do what I love is everything and more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started my business back in 2018, I began by using square.com I then went to Etsy after Etsy, I transitioned to wix.com and Miiriya. I will say at first, it was a slow start getting my name out there. There’s always haters and sometimes those haters are family and friends but you gotta push through and realize, ‘hey I can do this one step at a time keep moving forward’. Having a child under five and running a business is definitely a struggle and a full-time job. When I first started, I was working full time as a security guard and running my business in my free time while raising my son as well. Then the pandemic hit and at first, it was damaging to my business, but my business actually grew throughout the pandemic. I began to promote more create more and improve my craftsmanship I also made many business associates who gave me helpful advice. Not to mention the Miiriya app has been extremely helpful that app is a black-owned black made entrepreneur app and I cannot even express the gratitude I have for the amazing man behind the app.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting out is persistence, do what you love and do it the best you can. There are gonna be bumps in the road but nothing good was ever easily obtainable. When I first started out, I wish I would’ve started my business was a business not a hobby because a lot of friends and family assume when you follow your dreams, it’s not a job it’s merely a hobby but in reality, it’s a job and your livelihood. Just remember it’s your business, your baby and your dream the only one who can make it come true is you.
