Exploring Life & Business with Kimberly Meraz of Sync Brokerage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Meraz.

Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my early career in Marketing as a Copywriter for an Advertising / PR agency writing for press & print publications. Then after several years, I moved to the Corporate Finance world of mortgage lending where I spent five years as a Branch Manager overseeing a nationwide portfolio. That led me to becoming a Business Manager for Actors/Creatives in the Entertainment industry in 2008. A few years ago, when I was looking to expand my own real estate holdings, I crossed paths with a prominent broker in Beverly Hills who began recruiting me to come to work with them, and when the timing was right, I finally launched my real estate career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hard & difficult accomplishments will challenge everything you think you know and test your patience and perseverance to the max. The irony is, when I left finance in 2008 right before the crisis & collapse of the markets, I didn’t think I would ever work in proximity to real estate again. When the industry came knocking, this time from a different angle, it took me a while to evaluate whether or not this was the path I wanted to pursue. My kids were finally older and more independent, and I’d had enough life/work experience to know I wanted complete autonomy over my career and more time with my family, and this was the right match. The most important aspect was that it aligned with my values and where I was in life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sync Brokerage?
I’ve always preferred to thrive in smaller environments where I can really make an impact, and being with SYNC Brokerage as a boutique agency aligns with my vision. They’ve been extremely supportive of me from the beginning, and I had an amazing mentor who guided me into a very challenging industry. My inner compass always points to being the Real Estate agent I wish I’d had, and coming from that place informs the integrity and dedication of how I work. I care the most about my clients, and offering the expertise of buying / selling a home with sharpness, passion & enthusiasm is the most fulfilling aspect of what I do.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think finding a mentor isn’t always something you can orchestrate on demand, it has to happen with a certain degree of serendipity. As long as you’re on the right path and staying open & receptive while learning from others, you’ll be guided in all the right ways. Networking is paramount to what I do, but it sounds so transactional to me, and I prefer to think of it as connecting instead. I constantly push myself to create opportunities where I can genuinely connect with new people. For instance, I’ve always wanted to learn tennis, so I enrolled in tennis classes and made a whole new group of amazing friends. Now, in turn, one of my tennis friends and I have started a women’s Mastermind discussion group for entrepreneurial creatives where we brainstorm, think tank and support each other.

Something I’ve learned from working with actors is if you’re interested, you’ll be interesting. Authenticity is key.
