Exploring Life & Business with Kennedy Crichlow and Mary Ralph Lawson of Daily Drills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Crichlow and Mary Ralph Lawson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Kenn(24) and Ralph(23) soon quit their social media and marketing jobs to give shoppers what they want – pieces made using high-quality fabrics and fashion-forward fits that inspire playfulness and endless styling possibilities. What started as cardboard boxes of inventory stacked on Ralph’s apartment balcony has turned into the easy to love, exciting to style apparel destination that is Daily Drills.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When we started the company, we were mainly just focused on learning and trying something new. It was mid-pandemic and we were both itching for a creative outlet. We each put in $10,000 to start the brand, knowing that if all else failed, we would walk away with hands-on experience and more vision for the future. We were blown away by the quick momentum and loyal community. Of course, it wasn’t all sexy. The first few months of business, we were working two jobs and personally delivering hundreds of orders to the post office!! Thankfully we now have a warehouse, but with growth always comes new challenges 😉

We’ve been impressed with Daily Drills, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Daily Drills is an LA-based lifestyle brand that changes the way you look at your closet! Our pieces are made using high-quality fabrics and fashion-forward fits, inspiring playfulness and endless styling possibilities. We unintentionally adopted a drop-based business model, meaning that most our sales come from the day a new collection goes live. On average we put out two collections a month, each with their own campaign storyline. Unlike most traditional brands we started with a range of categories — swim, silks, cashmere, lounge, and active. The old way of thought is to establish yourself with one category and wait until you’re well-recognized to test new categories, but we thought it was time to change that. We also shoot all our pieces out in the world instead of behind a white backdrop because we want to inspire our community with new locations and more ways to style the pieces! We do about five big designation campaigns a year where we shoot in aspirational locations and create fun travel guides so our community can follow along and add it to their bucket list.

We are most proud that we have a growing business at our age and get to influence culture in a big way!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
We are always listening and reading but we feel like it’s the company you keep who make the biggest impact. Our network and support system is truly the reason why we are able to run a business the way we do and inspire us to be our best selves. They are who encouraged us to start the brand, pick us up when we are discouraged, and introduce us to mentors in the space!
