With a background in business—including a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Marketing, and an MBA—I have spent over 13 years in the eCommerce sector, primarily focused on marketing. While I am proud of the success I helped generate for other companies, I’ve always felt a strong urge to forge my own path and start my own business. This desire culminated in a pivotal moment when I shared an exciting marketing campaign I executed, which brought in a million dollars for my employer. My husband’s response—”So, you’re excited that you made another person a million dollars? Why not do it for yourself?”—was truly an eye-opener. It made me realize that if I could drive such success for others, I could certainly do it for myself as well.
Throughout my life, I have always believed in the importance of maintaining a clean home. A tidy space fosters a sense of calm and happiness, helping me think clearly and feel more organized. Having hired many cleaners over the years for my own home, I recognized the challenge of finding reliable help. As a busy mom with a career, it was often difficult to secure the assistance I needed to keep my home in order. I wanted a cleaner who would be easy to book and provide thorough service. This challenge inspired the idea for my cleaning business, The Maid Squad, where I aimed to create a platform that connects people with great house cleaners they can depend on.
With determination and passion fueling my vision, I launched The Maid Squad in 2020, dedicating countless hours to building the business from the ground up. The road has certainly not been smooth, and like many new entrepreneurs the early days were incredibly challenging. I did not anticipate that hiring cleaners would require such an effort. As a result, I often found myself cleaning homes until I could bring on additional staff. However, this hands-on experience taught me the value of hard work and instilled in me a deep respect for our cleaning team. Acquiring customers was also a significant task, and I made early mistakes that cost me thousands of dollars. I vividly recall my first few months. There were many days without any leads when I would find myself praying for at least one booking. There were moments when I seriously contemplated quitting, feeling overwhelmed by the uncertainty of it all. However, I consistently returned to my core motivations: the desire to earn a viable living through self-employment and the ability to spend quality time with my family. These reasons fueled my passion and pushed me to persevere through every challenge and ultimately shaped my commitment to building a successful business. Today, I’m grateful to have a dedicated group of cleaners and customer service professionals, which allows me to focus on overall business development.
